Elliott Wilson has ruffled feathers after criticizing Cam’ron’s skills as a journalist.
During an appearance on the New Rory & Mal podcast, the veteran Hip Hop journalist made his feelings clear on artists becoming media personalities, taking particular issue with Killa Cam who hosts the sports talk show It Is What It Is alongside Ma$e.

“Everybody is media. Cam’ron’s running around like he’s Stephen A. Smith. It’s what we’re dealing with,” Wilson said, bemoaning the trend of artists not granting interviews to established journalists, podcasts or publications and instead launching their own platforms.
“Why is he a sports journalist? Because he has an opinion? He’s got Ma$e having a job because the bag is there! […] This is the shit I do well and now everybody wants to do it. I don’t like it.”

He added: “Celebrities have access to different things that I may not have and I feel like they underperform every time […] The access goes to them above me — that’s the problem I have.”
Wilson also described content from non-journalists as “cringeworthy,” adding: “I watch their shit, it’s not good. It ain’t popping!”
The Bigger Picture co-host additionally referenced Cam’ron’s recent interviews with 50 Cent and Stephen A. Smith, saying: “[People were like,] ‘Yo, Cam’ron really asked the questions.’ What are you talking about? No! […] It seems sexy like, ‘Yo, Cam’s a sports reporter now. Oooh!'”
Wilson’s comments did not go unnoticed by Cam’ron’s It Is What It Is platform and he was subsequently called out by the show’s official Instagram page (which appears to be run by a social media admin and not Cam or Ma$e themselves).
“THE YEAR JUST STARTED & WE JUST CHILLING MINDING OUR BUSINESS SIPPING [champagne] & HERE COME THIS ‘CUBAN GOODING JR’ LOOKING MUTHAFU*KA WITH HIS SALTY HATING AZZ,” they fired back.

The account then posted a months-old video of Cam’ron putting the media industry on notice while shouting out the likes of Matt Barnes, Stephen A. Smith and Gillie Da Kid for “giving me and Murda some game about this business.”

The clapback spree continued with a “motivational video” for Elliott Wilson featuring his face superimposed into a scene from the Will Smith movie The Pursuit of Happyness.
The rap journo took the jabs in stride, reposting the aforementioned clip on his own Instagram page and writing: “OK y’all won. SMH. Ha! @itiswhatitis_talk [trophy emoji].”
However, the It Is What It Is account was not in the mood for a truce and hit back: “HEY YALL NOW HE WANT TO WAVE THE WHITE FLAG NAH @elliottwilson IT’s OVER WHEN WE SAY IT’s OVER & WE BEEN WINNING & ALREADY WON.

“I hate this discussion,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Cam literally does his research, is a trusted voice for these athletes & musicians to talk to and brings up other people with him.
“90% of the industry won’t even help others on their come up. It’s always gonna be someone else’s turn unless you do something about it. So booooooo next topic [thumb down emoji].”
