DX News Bits: Raekwon, Alchemist On Relapse 2

Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon will be performing at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival on July 17.

The initial line-ups for the fifth annual event were released on Friday (Feb. 5), with Rae being named the sole rapper on the bill for Saturday. While mostly catering to indie and alternative rock fans, the Pitchfork Music Festival has invited such Hip Hop acts as Pharoahe Monch, De La Soul and DOOM in past events.

Prices vary for tickets from one day ($49) to three day ($90). The Pitchfork Music Festival will be held at Chicago’s Union Park. Visit here for more information.

In other news, producer/rapper Alchemist says Eminem has been working with fellow West Coast producer DJ Khalil on Relapse 2.

Khalil has made a name for himself in the last few years, gaining production placements on albums from Jay-Z, Game, Clipse, and 50 Cent. However, this is the first time he has worked with the Detroit emcee. “Khalil—who I think is like the best producer right now to me—he had been sending records to Em for a while that wasn’t like, they weren’t like clicking in. Em knew he was dope but they hadn’t [sic] found the right one,” Alchemist told XXLMag.com.

Over time though, Alchemist said the two artists started to see eye to eye on their work. “I think they found a couple joints now…the joints they have are crazy. I can’t say 100 percent [that he made the album], but I have heard at least two joints Khalil did and they’re fuckin’ stupid.”

Along with DJ Khalil’s possible inclusion, Relapse 2 is expected to feature production from Dr. Dre, Just Blaze, and Denaun Porter.

    1. PREDICTION….RELAPSE 2 WILL BE JUST AS WEAK AS THE FIRST ONE…BUT WILL MIRACULOUSLY SELL ANOTHA MILLION COPIES…I WONDER WHY…COME TO THINK OF IT..I NEVER HEAR EMINEM ANYWHERE… HE PERFORMED NOT ONE OF HIS OWN SONGS ON THE GRAMMYS…I WONDER WHO’S PLAYIN THIS GUY?…THINGS THAT MAKE U GO HMMM

      1. I SWEAR I AINT HEARD NOBODY TALK OF EM IN THE STREETS. ONLINE, HE’S THE SHIT, IN REALITY PPL DONT REALLY PLAY HIS SHIT THIS DAYS

      2. Em’s music is more for ‘at home listening’, imo. Just makes it that much more intimate. It sure ain’t that repetitive club music shit you hear on the radio.

And when the Relapse and Refill albums came out, that shit flew off the shelves. I remember looking everywhere for Refill a few months ago, it’s cool that his music is still popular.

    2. I SWEAR I AINT HEARD NOBODY TALK OF EM IN THE STREETS. ONLINE, HE’S THE SHIT, IN REALITY PPL DONT REALLY PLAY HIS SHIT THIS DAYS. MAYBE IN OTHER CITIES NOT MINE

      1. EMINEM IS AN INTERNET GHOST…SOMEBODY WHO GEEKS AND WHITE BOYS HOLDIN ONTO THE EMINEM GOLDEN YRS TALK ABOUT…THESE FOOLS WOULD TRY TO MAKE U BELIEVE THAT SHIT THEY TALKIN’ ABOUT HE THE BEST…THE BEST AT WHAT…

      2. @ Dutch

I heard relapse everywhere the first 2 months it was out, at least in Philly he still gets play………Not in the clubs or nuthin, but Eminem was never big there anyway, when The MMLP was out, it sold Diamond and I never heard the tracks in a club…

Ems the type of artist you could put his record all the way in the back of the store and at least a million people will go find it there……

    3. Come to Europe, em is da shit over here.I’m from Paris and a lot of people listen to him here (they might not understand what he says tho). Maybe he’s lost recognition in the US but in Europe people respect him.

      1. He hasnt lost recognition at all, seeing as he was the best selling hiphop artist of 09!(black eyed peas dont count, theyre pop)

    4. The headline is misleading. From reading it, I thought it was gonna say that Raekwon & The Alchemist were on Relapse 2. I was thinking Em & The Chef on the same track?! Alchemist beats? But nope.

      1. same yo, I was about say, eminem+raekwon+alchemist is gonna be a classic…fuckin website needs to up its grammatical game

    5. A lot of people said that relapse was bad but I thought it was pretty good. 2 or 3x’s better then Encore,(that was just bad) Em was so lyrical on every bar that it blew me away. A lot of emiem’s earlier song’s sound like complaining i.e. I’m sorry mama, cleaning out my closet etc…i like it when he’s just spazzing out. introspective songs? em doesn’t even leave his house, so he might as well flex his wordplay.

      1. I liked Relapse and Encore. I’m not even a huge Em fan like that but I don’t know why people don’t like either of these albums. To me, Encore was Em at his lyrical peak. He was dumb swift with the rhymes on that album, and he was comfortable and creative. Relapse was good too, but it lacked continuity. It almost felt like a compilation album.

    6. –** bla ckmilitary friends. CoooooooooooooM**– is the world’s largest and best club for both military and civilian friends. It has experienced tremendous success in bringing military personals and their admirers together these years.

    7. I heard DJ Premier was supposed to do a track with EM a while back. What the fuck is wrong with EM? he could have the best producers of all=time on his album. I.E. (pete rock, mablib, premo, allah mathamatics, j-dilla) and sooo many more, but he continues to use, not bad beats, but I think if he got back to the roots of things his shit would be 10X doper. i dont like his new shit that much, sounds like hes trying to hard or some shit.

      1. Em working with them cats wouldnt sound right man……..If Em is gonna work with other producers, it should be cats likelegendary Traxxter, Or Rick Rubin…. Khalil sounds like that would work 2, maybe focus or

I dont wanna hear that dude over some soul music samples, that would be a total mis-match……..Kinda makes me nervous about the Just Blaze thing

Just cause 2 things are good doesnt mean they’d be good together…… I like Pizza and I like Choclate, but I dont think I’d wanna eat choclate covered Pizza

      2. 100% co-sign. People always criticize Nas for his choice of beats but Eminem has always had the worst taste hands down when it comes to production. He doesnt need necessarily super soulful production but some hardcore Premo shit (what happened to that?) would fit his style perfectly. I never check for any of his albums because the beats are horrible and he stays wasting his skills rapping about irrelevant bullshit.

      3. Id rather hear em with oh no. I love madlib but his beats are ussually to weird for most rappers to really sound good with. But him and oh no would be dope he makes good hip hop beats with just a touch of weird.

    8. they word headlines like that to grab attention

also,if ENCORE would have been released before some of em’s previous albums would it catch as much critisizm.also at the time it was released some fans may have been tired of the same substance, also the music game was in a serious hiatus of talent, just opinion.

on the last note, would it be offensive to say RAEKWON,METH,INSPECTAH DECK and fellow CLANSMEN,as opposed to WU-TANG CLAN MEMBERS???????

      1. what exactly are you complaining about??

looks to me you;re just rambling on about nothing in particular, drifting from topic to topic and not making good points about anything.

you sound retarded… you sound like a mentally retarded human with nothing good to say

    10. Eminem is afraid of southern rappers. He mastered the East Coaststyle and stopped evolving. Throw on a kentucky accent and get some white trash beats. I wanna hear some trailer park eminem. “So what if she’s my Sister” the mixtape coming soon. lol

      1. They already have a guy for that, Haystak……..Redneck Flow, having sex with Underage girls. convicted Sex Offender Hip Hop at its finest

    11. I can’t wait to hear the production on that album I have a feeling that it’s gonna be heavy very heavy. Just Blaze forever.

    12. Just wait for Relapse 2 thats all.Everyone knows Em kills it they may not like him but you can’t take it from him.lil wayne said he was the best rapper Alive Em killed him on his own shit matter of fact that was the best song on The rebirth cd. oh and Jay-z with the Blue print!Do you recall the song- Renegade Em killed it hahahahah

    13. The problem is..he never needed dope beats..he’s like so talented in spitting rhymes and tellin stories..he doesn’t need no great beats such as other cats.

There are so many tracks outthere with dope beats the artist can’t touch..

But I agree..would be great to see eminem on a record produced by legends and featuring legends just as Nas, dmx..reakwon..method man…or who ever..

      Peace Up
