Announced over a a year ago, Pimp C’s posthumous solo album The Naked Soul of Sweet James Jones has finally gotten a release date of September 21 on Rap-a-Lot/Fontana. At the helm of the project is Pimp’s partner Bun B, who helped assemble the album from a collection of previously unreleased verses from the late rapper’s catalogue.
“We had enough vocals [for the album], but it wasn’t just about taking whatever vocals I had available,” Bun B told XXL about the LP. “It was about constructing songs. It wasn’t about just throwing all the Pimp C I had out there. I had to really try to make an album.”
In other news, fresh off his visit to Haiti with Styles P and Immortal Technique, Cormega chopped it up with ChinkyEyedLA.com about his next album. Although mum’s the word as to the title and more specific details, he said fans can expect it to drop the summer of 2011. He also said that fans can expect to hear him collaborating with one of the Wu-Tang Clan and one of Queensbridge’s “…best spitters,” although he did not reveal either artist’s identity.
“The new album coming [around this time] next year,” he said. “I can’t tell the title, ‘cus the last time I said my title, somebody took [it]…[but] I’m going to blow it up [with the album]. I’ve got somebody from Wu-Tang on it, that’s all I’ll say, and I’ve got somebody from QB on it, one of the best spitters from Queensbridge on there, too.”
The QB emcee also talked about artists he hopes to cross paths with in the studio. Among the likes of Slick Rick and M.O.P., Cormega said he would like to work with Kurupt and Tha Dogg Pound again at some point in his career.
“In the future, who I wouldn’t mind collabing with, people like Scarface, Lauryn Hill, Slick Rick,” he said. “I always liked doing shit with M.O.P., Mobb Deep…there’s a lot of people…I would like to do a Dogg Pound track. I’ve worked with Kurupt before.”
