DX News Bits: Ice Cube Edition

While Ice Cube is best known for his pioneering work as a West Coast emcee, the multi-talented Los Angeles-native solidified a film career through his 1995 cult classic movie Friday.

With an expected return to rap with I Am The West, due out July 13, Ice Cube also says he plans to continue his Friday franchise with its fourth installment. However, one notable figure of the series needs to be on board before it continues. “I don’t want to do it without Chris Tucker. That’s what people want,” Cube told Moviefone.com. “I really want to give people what they want, especially doing it for a fourth time. We can’t just go through a movie without giving the people exactly what they want.”

Brainstorming on how the next movie could start off, Cube added, “I see Smokey working at a rehab center. [Laughs] Craig and Day-Day are probably selling weed by now, get busted, have to go rehab with Smokey, try to convince Smokey to smoke a joint. [Laughs] That’d be pretty cool.”

With a new Friday movie still in the works, Ice Cube recently signed on to star in the police flick Rampart.

Set in the 1990s, Rampart follows Cube, a homicide detective who is investigating another police officer’s (Woody Harrelson) criminal acts, including the murder of a gang member during an interrogation.

Filming for Rampart begins in August in Los Angeles.

Finally, for diehard Ice Cube fans, online publication UIM (Underwire Interactive Magazine) recently commemorated the West Coast artist’s work with a full magazine dedicated to his career. As a part of their “Icons Series,” the Ice Cube edition features a full-length interview, as well as several articles that depict the rapper/actor’s impact on Hip Hop, the movie industry, and American culture.

    1. Original friday was great but the sequals were awful, I doubt Chris tucker coming back would change any of that, he aint done shit worth watching in like a decade, lol

    2. I’d love 2 C an Ice Cube/Chris Tucker reunion 4 a 4th Friday instalment. Cube’z obviously a dope emcee, but hiz thespian skillz R sub-par. Along with da 1st 2 Friday flix, Cube’z only other decent performancez were in John Singleton’z Boyz N the Hood and Higher Learning. Chris Tucker also showed he can work in non-comedy rolez – Dead Presidents, Panther and Tarantino’z superb Jackie Brown R all classix.

      1. ^^^ fetal aclohol syndorme. adding z to everything like a wigger faggot. “thespian skills are subpar”. youre human interaction skills are subpar, kill yourself you spastic lame.

ice cube is top 5 for his first 3 solos alone.

ice cube penned friday, next friday, and barbershop, and niggas gonna front on his hollywood game? playaz club didnt drop? friday franchise is legandary, heads always gonna be waitin for the next insatllment.

      2. U misspelt “youre” – there’z no extra “E”. Da correct spellin’ of “youre” would also include an apostrophe.

      3. doubl negative = fetal alcohol syndrome. you type like a wigger faggot. a wigger faggot with brain damage. kill yourself. you can spellcheck after. dx comments can be great, or they can give you a headache and make you wanna punch someone out. i wanna punch you the fuck out.

“ice cube thespian skillz R sub-par”

      4. Mr Nap, if U take umbrage with me uzin’ da letter “Z”, may I suggest U chuck out “youre” Redman, Das EFX, Onyx, Black Moon and Smif n’ Wessun CDz.

      5. what else can I say?, these dudes arlready stated all of your flaws, I just want to add that I think you’re a complete dumbass.

      6. In art and any expressive endeavour, you should be able to express yourself however you see fit, no matter how idiosyncratic. John Coltrane’s music, Jackson Pollock’s paintings and David Lynch’s movies all deviate from the norm, and that only adds to their beauty. I’m not comparing my blogs to their genius work, just using the analogy that I’m different. I still can’t fathom why my spellings have caused such hostility amongst some of my fellow dx bloggers, but just to appease you cry-babies, I shall henceforth use conventional spellings. Now, let’s get back to discussing what we all love – Hip-Hop!

    3. Ok, them Friday shits was funny as fuck, no one disagrees! But all this hype in the name of buzz for an album? He probably won’t even do it!
I’m not saying he’s a bad actor, but at times you can’t polish a torn shoe. Let the glories of the past stick to their times.

      1. I disagree, Done right a fourth friday could be funny, plus Tucker and Epps on the same screen that just can’t suck.
