Drake Copes With The Loss Of His Grandmother On Thanksgiving Day

While many took time to give thanks and gather with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day, Canadian rapper Drake was unfortunately left to deal with the tragic passing of his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Sher. MTV News reports that the Young Money artist revealed the somber news in a single Tweet posted to his Twitter page yesterday (November 22).

“Rest in peace to my grandmother Evelyn Sher. What a day to go…thankful to have had the times we did,” the rapper Tweeted.

Drake mentions his grandmother on the Thank Me Later record “The Resistance” and she was also featured in a deleted scene from Drake’s 2010 MTV documentary Drake: Better Than Good Enough. In the scene Drake visited his grandmother in a nursing home shortly after signing to Universal Motown/Young Money.

Earlier in the year Drake reportedly canceled his Club Paradise tour stops in both North Carolina and Virginia to be with his ailing grandmother.

DX sends its condolences to both Drake and his family.

    1. Though I still don’t like his music, he is still a human being, so my condolences go out to him and his family. RIP Elevyn

    2. I don’t think something as personal as this needs to be announced to the world on twitter, but r.i.p. nevertheless.

    3. I agree with post below. It doesn’t seem lke a very respectful thing to tweet, especially on the same day that it happened. Who gets news like that and then pulls out their phone to tweet it?

      1. this new generation, they see a crime or an accident they dont call 9-1-1, they pull out their phone and take pictures or video it

    4. What’s the difference if it got reported on the news or broke over the internet on the same day? I think Drake justed wanted to be the one to break the news and pay his respects at the same time.

    5. That’s so very sad and I hope that he can be strong. I remember hearing his grandmother talking to him on the Take Care album and it was the realist part of an already real album.

    6. now we’ll get another track from him with that same voice of his. YOu know the one DMX didn’t like & neither to i. It’s that same boring half singing/want to be rapping vocals he do, on every song. #BeenNiceNotHearingHim Sucks your Gma died but don’t make a wack track with that tired voice of yours.

      1. You’re referring to DMX, the guy whose voice was destroyed from drug use? The guy who constantly talks about ass rape, and begs niggaz to suck his dick?

      1. deleting her from a documentary means he doesnt care about her? you sound so fucking stupid it hurts my fingers to respond to you

    7. thanksgiving for canadians was a month ago but yall forget his dads side of the family, which is black and is in TN DID celebrate thanksgiving that day and seeing as how he spent time with his family during the summers like he says in his songs, he prolly celebrates some american holidays as well
