Donald Trump has defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, prompting varying reactions from the Hip Hop community which featured prominently in the race.
Trump was officially elected president for the second time on Wednesday (November 6) after winning the necessary 270 electoral college votes required to win the White House.

The controversial Republican has secured 276 electoral votes to Harris’ 223 as of this writing, per CNN, emerging victorious in key swing states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina.
Unlike his 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton and failed campaign against Joe Biden in 2020, Trump has also won the popular vote having received over 71 million votes and counting.

In another blow to Democrats, Republicans have reclaimed control of the Senate for the first time in four years and are also poised to win the House of Representatives.
In a victory speech at his headquarters in Florida, Trump said: “I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that your children deserve.”
The newly-minted 47th president also described the result as a “magnificent victory for the American people” and promised that his second term in office will be “the golden age of America.”
After Trump’s victory was made official, and as it looked inevitable in the hours leading up to it, the likes of 50 Cent, Cardi B and Public Enemy’s Chuck D took to social media to react to the news.
50, who had expressed support for Trump during the race despite turning down a lucrative offer to perform at one of his rallies, congratulated the former Apprentice star on his historic return to the Oval Office.
“I don’t care how the fight goes, I’m leaving with the winner shit,” he wrote on Instagram alongside photos of them together at a black tie event. “I still don’t know what’s going on [facepalm emoji] congratulations!”

Harris supporter Cardi unsurprisingly did not share 50’s enthusiasm, writing on her Instagram Stories: “I hate yall bad.”
She also posted a video in which she said: “This is why some of y’all states be getting hurricanes. That’s all I’ma say,” referencing the recent storms that have ravaged Southern states like Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Also dismayed at the election result, Chuck D wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Don’t Let A Win go to your head or a loss get to your heart. A ‘L’ He Got Game fuckin again. The NYC hustler Gamed them again. Well its time for myself to work head forward as a 2nd class citizen. Good luck ill be watching it all with a Pen and a Pad USA.”
The politically-minded rap pioneer further took aim at Trump by uploading a sketch of the soon-to-be-president and writing: “One thing we do know is that it wont be a goon gathering this coming January. It will be a concession without the bullsht.”
Elsewhere, Joe Budden joked prior to Trump’s victory: “If Trump win I’m egging cyber trucks,” referencing Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s huge financial backing of the Republican.

Lil Pump, one of Trump’s biggest supporters within the rap game, celebrated the result by hitting out at his detractors, including his Hip Hop peers who endorsed Harris.
“All these rappers that got paid to endorse Kamal[a] Harris you’re fucking losers you can’t pay me to endorse Donald Trump. I stand on what’s right,” he tweeted.

He then took aim at two Harris-supporting superstars in particular, writing: “Fuck Eminem” and “Fuck Taylor Swift.”
The “Gucci Gang” hitmaker continued: “God bless Donald Trump. Gas is gonna be cheaper. Taxes is gonna be lower and life is gonna be great. This is the best day of my life.”
