West and Toliver collaborated on Donda and the unfinished Donda 2 projects. In a previous interview on the Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning, Toliver offered insight into his relationship with Kanye, praising the Chicago-based rapper on his honesty and transparency.
“That’s one of the people in the industry for sure that is transparent with me and I thank God for it, for real,” Toliver said at the time.

Elsewhere in his interview on the Joe Budden Podcast, Toliver discussed the aesthetic inspiration and the conceptualization of his latest project. The album, inspired by disco culture, was aesthetically inspired by the legendary Studio 54 in New York City. However, the Houston-based rapper wasn’t truly inspired until he learned of Michael Jackson’s involvement with the club.
“Just like the fact it’s like a thing to where the rules is like everybody has to party,” Toliver explained. “Not everybody’s getting in and the music and the whole scenery looks crazy. That’s what I fell in love with I really feel it after I found out Micheal Jackson went to Studio 54.”
The rest of Toliver’s interview explored his upbringing in Houston, Texas, and the influence that artists like Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, and Bobby Womack had on his music. Toliver also mentioned a few of his Hip Hop influences — including OutKast, Kendrick Lamar, and Dom Kennedy.
Meanwhile, in other Kanye West news, the controversial star has claimed that he hasn’t made any money off his Donda 2 Stem Player, despite the device reportedly pulling in over $2million in revenue.

The claim was made in court documents as part of Ye’s ongoing Donda 2 sample lawsuit that was filed on behalf of Marshall Jefferson’s publisher, Ultra International Music Publishing (UIMP).
