Doja Cat has taken legal action against a man who allegedly threatened her life after being kicked out of an “incel” chat room earlier this week.

According to TMZ, a source within the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Office said that Doja has filed an official report for a criminal threat over the events that followed an incident that left the singer facing bullying accusations.

Earlier this week, an unverified participant in a Tinychat room posted to social media: “Not only has Doja Cat been going into this chat room, this is her right here, the owner gave her admin and she bans, kicks and bullies the shit out of me in the chat.”

After making the public accusation, the man reportedly returned to the chat room and threatened Doja Cat inside of the private chat room.

Authorities have confirmed that the man does not live in California, but did not release any additional information about the investigation.

Doja Cat has previously delt with backlash over appearing in chat rooms that have been branded as “incel” or “alt-right” spaces. She previously denied all allegations made against her regarding any racist behavior in 2020.

Social media narratives began to run rampant against Doja with the #DojaCatIsOverParty hashtag trending across Twitter.

“I want to address what’s been happening on Twitter,” she wrote. “I’ve used public chat rooms to socialize since I was a child. I shouldn’t have been on some of those chat room sites, but I personally have never been involved in any racist conversations. I’m sorry to everyone that I offended.”

Doja Cat continued: “I understand my influence and impact and I’m taking this all very seriously. I love you all and I’m sorry for upsetting or hurting any of you. That’s not my character, and I’m determined to show that to everybody moving forward. Thank you.”

Her online misadventures aren’t always quite as serious however. Following Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, the singer made headlines when she changed her Twitter name to “christmas” on November 10 before realizing she couldn’t change it to something else. So, she called on Musk for his help in fixing the technical hitch, to which he obliged.

Elon Musk replied: “Working on it! Pretty funny though.” He later responded to Doja Cat’s “#boob” tweet, saying: “You should be able to change your name now.”
