DJ Spooky, known to mix and master works for everyone from Metallica to Killah Priest [click to read] has decided to dust off the turntables, and mixers in preparation for his new album, The Secret Song, which will be released October 6, 2009 by Thirsty Ear Recordings. With the purchase of the album customers will receive a rare film, Kino-Glaz, directed by Dziga Vertov, which has been digitally remastered and re-scored by DJ Spooky.
Although, DJ Spooky, aka Paul D. Miller, hasn’t been in the studio for sometime there is no doubt he has kept himself busy. Over the last couple years Miller has shot several films overseas and also wrote two of MIT Press‘ top-selling books.
In the upcoming album, Spooky combines several different genres, and artists including; Thurston Moore, Vijay Iyer, Zimbabwe Legit, Rob Swift, The Coup [click to read], The Jungle Brothers, Mike Ladd, and Abdul Smooth.
While producing the album, Spooky has continued to stay active. He has performed Rebirth Of A Nation in prominent locations across the globe, and mixed at events such as Bonnaroo, and Earth Day, which was held on the Washington, DC Mall. The deejay’s reach doesn’t end at music, his art can be found at highly established art venues like The Tate Modern, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Robert Miller Gallery.
Spooky has employed a marketing campaign, which involves secret tracks hidden in barcodes all over downtown New York City. The hidden barcode tracks can actually be activated with a swipe of an iPhone.
The Secret Song, will mark Spooky’s sixth album.
