DJ Khaled Confirms Tony Yayo's Curved Handshake Story: 'I Couldn't Do It'

DJ Khaled has addressed Tony Yayo‘s curved handshake story, confirming that it is in fact true.

During an appearance on Drink Champs in July, Yayo claimed that Khaled refused to shake his hand in 2005 due to G-Unit‘s beef with Fat Joe, who Khaled was close friends with.

“I had ‘[So] Seductive’ dropping. I didn’t know nothing about the music business. We beefing with [Fat Joe],” he recalled. “You fuck with Fat Joe, Khaled ain’t fucking with you.

“I got my record I’m trying to promote, so they like, ‘Yo, you gotta got to Miami … You gotta go to DJ Khaled’ … I said, ‘Yo bro, I don’t think this is a good idea, man.’ It’s the industry bro, they’ll set you up!”

He continued: “So we go up there. I told these n-ggas, ‘Yo, don’t take me to DJ Khaled. Fat Joe, that’s his man. He damn near Terror Squad.'”

Tony Yayo then claimed that DJ Khaled pretended to shake his hand before yelling out his “DJ Khaled” tagline and telling him to get the “fuck outta here.”

“Go in there, you see the wedge bulging,” he continued. “Oh boy, here we go. We wasn’t traveling light. I’m not gon’ say much, but we wasn’t traveling light. Go to Khaled to shake his hand — ‘DJ Khaled, get the fuck outta here!’

“I respect Khaled for that ’cause [Fat Joe] is his man … But I did go ’cause this is radio. I don’t understand this shit, I’m getting out of jail … So I’m like, ‘Yo, fuck you Khaled!’ I swear to God. You can ask him.”

DJ Khaled was the latest guest on Club Shay Shay this week, where he confirmed Tony Yayo’s story and told Shannon Sharpe his side of things.

“At that time, I work at a radio station,” he said. “Everybody’s welcome at a radio station so you could never involve them type of situations and I understood that. And I’ve always been somebody that showed love, but when they told me [Yayo] was coming up I was like, ‘Wow.’

“You know, him and my man don’t get along. [Fat Joe] is my brother, for real. I was just saying to myself, ‘This is gonna be hard for me’ because if I would have completely embraced him, I probably wouldn’t have been able to sleep at night. And if I did, I would have called [Fat Joe] immediately like, ‘This is what happened.’ That’s how much I care.”

“Would I have done things differently now?” he added. “I probably would have did the same thing, but I would have tried to put myself where I wouldn’t have to be in that room.”

DJ Khaled went on to explain that there’s no issues between him and Tony Yayo now and they’re able to laugh at the situation.

“By the way, it’s all love now,” he said. “Everybody’s all love now. I have no problem with nobody. I wanna make that clear. I love everyone. That was when we were younger. He did come shake my hand. I told him, ‘I can’t do that.’ I just told him I couldn’t do it.

“If I ever put a documentary out, it’s gonna be interesting. Like, wow. The thing is that’s so beautiful is we’re able to talk about it now and have a laugh and smile about it. When he told the story and I heard him and he said he respected me and he understood, that was love. That was love for him saying that and I appreciate that.”

He added: “Yeah, I just couldn’t shake his hand at that moment. And Joe will tell you, I was the guy saying, ‘We don’t need no problems with those guys. We don’t need no problems with nobody.'”
