DJ Envy has called out former co-host Angela Yee over claims she made about being the “only woman” working on The Breakfast Club during her time on the show.
His statements came after Yee’s recent interview on The Tamron Hall Show began making rounds on social media on Friday (March 3). During the interview, Yee was asked about being held to task for misogynistic statements made by her male co-hosts on the show.
In addition to sharing that she felt like she often bore the brunt of the criticism, particularly for controversial comments made by Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee told host Tamron Hall that being the only woman involved with the show’s production often put her in a precarious position as well.
“I was the only woman who worked there too, when it came to producers, camera people; and it wasn’t an easy room for me to be in,” she said. “So I feel like I did need more backup. Because even things that I felt as a woman, somebody can’t understand your point of view because they’re not coming from where you come from. And so that was hard for me too, to be the only woman there with nobody to check somebody, ‘You shouldn’t have said that like that.'”
Upon spotting a clip from the interview reposted by The Shade Room, DJ Envy hopped in the comments to denounce Yee’s remarks.
“[Cap emoji] That’s just not true,” he wrote in a first comment under the post. “[Cap emoji] There are plenty of women that work behind the scenes on @breakfastclubam.”
DJ Envy wasn’t the only one who felt like Angela Yee’s account of her position on the show was less than accurate. Lil Mama — whose own headline-making appearance on the The Breakfast Club was mentioned by Tamron Hall as an example of misogyny on the show — also commented on The Shade Room‘s post.
“Oh PLEASE,” the rapper wrote. “She was up there playing foul games too. She has helped make multiple women (of color especially) feel like the only woman in that room numerous times. #RockThrowingHandHidingBitch”
The Radio Hall of Famer departed from the popular morning show this past December. Months prior, Angela Yee had alluded to her departure tweeting, “The breakfast club as you know it is officially over” followed by a heart-shaped hands emoji.
Her tweet made The Breakfast Club a trending topic on Twitter, with fans sharing their favorite moments from throughout the show’s 12-year history.
The following day, she announced on-air her impending exit from the popular Power 105.1 show, while revealing she would be hosting her very own nationally syndicated daily show on iHeart Radio.
That show, Way Up With Angela Yee, debuted as a syndicated show on various iHeartMedia stations in February.
While Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy have yet to confirm whether a third host will be added to The Breakfast Club lineup anytime soon, the popular morning show has welcomed a number of guest hosts over the past few weeks, including Jemele Hill, Jason Lee, Nene Leakes, and Jess Hilarious.
The Breakfast Club is still on air?
I was thinking the same exact thing! Man!
I feel like the breakfast club would be better if Angela leaved! And guess what? It’s better ! She didn’t bring anything to the table, she doesn’t seem real and engaged most of the time! She isn’t a hip-hop head she’s only there for the bag and the recognition! If she loved that she would be still there! Finally the breakfast club can breathe!
I felt she was good for the show. She often checked Charlamagne and Envy. I only listened once since she left and feel she’s missed.
Bruh she rolled with Em & Wu Tang prior to Breakfast club. And she’s from BK show knows hip hop, just boring
She was rolling with WuTang clan
How is she not a hip hop head?
You don’t know what you’re talking about 😂
Women are always the victim. They play that role well. I’m starting to get tired of hearing it to be honest. You name the situation there is always a woman who’s a victim. Get over yourselves. If you want equality take responsibility with some honesty. Rant over.
Facts. Same with Black people. They love victim hood.
Angela would report on news she got from another sources and puke not even add to the story. CTG would ask follow -up questions and she couldn’t answer. Half the time I didn’t even know she was there until her segments came up. She’s corny as F. So is her new show… Way up …. She couldn’t even get an original name, Way Up belongs to Fat Joe. I’m happy she is successful but doesn’t excuse the corniness and inaccuracies she mentioned about the show. CTG and DJ Envy are the real vibe and play off each other organically. Yee go drink some of that corny coffee you got,
