DJ Premier, Ice-T, Mack 10 & Ice Cube React To DJ Crazy Toones’ Sudden Passing

DJ Crazy Toones, who got his start with his brother WC and Coolio in WC & The Maad Circle in the early-to-mid ’90s, has reportedly passed away. He was 45. Although there is no official word of a cause of death, journalist/publicist Chad Kiser told Ambrosia For Heads that it was believed to be a heart attack.

The talented Los Angeles-based turntablist recently worked as Ice Cube’s official tour DJ, but over the course of his 30 year career, Toones had his able hands on countless West Coast productions, including WC & The Maad Circle “West up!” He also worked extensively with other West Coast OGs such as Kurupt, MC Ren, Xzibit, Young Maylay, and of course, Cube.

Cube and his son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., are two of many who have taken to social media to express their condolences. Heavy hitters like Ice-T, Immortal Technique, Alchemist, Mack 10, DJ Z-Trip, Kokane, Cypress Hill, Del The Funky Homosapien, and DJ Premier also chimed in. The staff at HipHopDX sends our condolences to DJ Crazy Toones’ family, friends and fans.

    2. Ain’t nobody give a fucc about no new sh*t, it’s the vets and pioneers who really matter. 1. Well if to you “it’s the vets and pioneers who really matter” then maybe you should check UGS4LIFE.com archives, you’ll find plenty they got crazy interviews with mad legends.

    3. Ohhhh maaaaaan I can’t believe this shit!! I’m fucken shocked man Damnnn I was so blessed to see him and WC like 3 months ago!!! Live they where 5feet away from me at the boost mobile LA event what the fuck Damnnn RIP OG TOONES WESTCONNECT FOR LIFE Ima Drink one For you tonight OG

    4. I did a quick search for dude on HipHopDX and i only found one article that’s an interview by ‘The Cut'(January 7, 2011 | 1:45 PM). There’s also a track with WC that was posted on this site (April 13, 2010 | 1:04 PM). That’s all the attention this legend got on this site during his decades spanning work when he was alive. He was featured on ‘The Murder Master Music Show’ podcast (posted on May 9, 2014). Funny how the guys @UGS4LIFE with zero budget get the vets/pioneers/legends on their show, but big money sites such as HipHopDX only remembers them when they are gone to get a ad revenue shekels from clicks. It only shows how lamestream media is not about the culture at all and no true journalism can be found here.

      1. Mad respect for that research. Don’t entirely agree with the sentiment that there is no true journalism but you had a valid point in checking out what this site did for the memory of DJ Toones – even though he had been active all the while. R.I.P. to the legend – let’s step our respect for legends game up.

    5. Very Sandend This morning, one of the best and underated DJ/ Producers to ever do it. We were lucky enough to get to chop it up with him a couple of time, real, real cool dude.

Condolences to his family and friends.

He is a name that definitely has to be mentioned more in hip hop and music, man what he did for the West Coast is amazing.

Much Love Toons, keep them clouds spinning my brother.

      Salute…………………..
