Death Row To Produce Film, Sons 2 The Grave

    In 1994, Death Row Records produced Murder Was The Case, the Dr. Dre-directed 18 minute video centered around the song from Snoop Doggy Dogg‘s [click to read] debut album. The label followed suit and made a seedier video collection in 2000, Death Row Uncut: Too Gangsta For TV, which controversially released the home addresses of former artists while featuring uncensored versions of videos from Row artists.

    After another lengthy hiatus from the film world, Death Row Records has returned. Row/WIDEawake CEO Lara Lavi [click to read] told The Hollywood Reporter [click here] about the first film set to carry the legendary urban media brand. “[Sons 2 The Grave] embodies what we’re trying to do with Death Row, to tell human stories that don’t always have happy endings, and that allow us to learn from violence and disenfranchised lives, but not glorify it,Lavi said.

    The film, centered around a NBA star-turned shooting victim returning to his ghetto neighborhood, is set to start filming in Toronto in October. Tonya Lee Williams, Dorian Harrewood and K.C. Collins are set to star.

    In related news, Death Row plans to re-release Dr. Dre‘s classic 1992 solo debut album The Chronic, as The Chronic Re-lit. The packaging will feature a bonus DVD, including a rare Dre interview, the companion videos and seven unreleased songs from the Death Row vaults.
