DaBaby Reveals He & Lil Baby Were Planning Joint Project: 'I'm [Still] Open To [It]'

DaBaby has revealed that he and Lil Baby once discussed making an album together, and while the project has yet to materialize, he’s still interested in the idea.

In an interview with Bootleg Kev that debuted on Thursday (October 10), the North Carolina rapper looked back on his failed collaboration with his Atlanta counterpart.

“We did talk about doing a collab project for a certain amount of time,” Baby said. “At the time, we were both so busy so we never got in the same place. We had talked about me coming to Atlanta for a couple of days and him coming up my way for a couple of days to knock that shit out.

“But the stars never aligned for us to be able to get into it and do the shit. But that’s something I’m definitely open to.”

He added: “I love the opportunity to create with anyone who doing they muthafucking thing and the best of the best. I feel like it’s an automatic win when it comes to me.”

Though the two Babies never linked up for a full project, they did work together on the aptly-titled “Baby” in 2019, which reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and appeared on Quality Control Music’s Control the Streets, Volume 2 compilation.

The two rappers are also no stranger to full-length collaborations, with Lil Baby linking up with Gunna for Drip Harder in 2018 and Lil Durk for The Voice of the Heroes in 2021, while DaBaby joined forces with NBA YoungBoy for Better Than You in 2022.

After a string of lukewarm mixtapes that failed to replicate the success of his earlier work, DaBaby returned last month with How TF Is This a Mixtape?

The 14-track project, which is an entirely solo affair, showcases a more mature and introspective side to the “Suge” hitmaker as he addresses some of the controversies that have plagued his career in recent years.
