Da Brat and her wife Jesseca Harris-Dupart are expecting their first child together, and the happy couple celebrated with a twerk-friendly baby shower over the weekend.

The former So So Def rapper took to Instagram on Sunday (May 21) to post a series of photos and videos from their Minions-themed party, with Da Brat thanking those that were a part of their special day.

She also gave her wife a special shout-out for twerking the day away.

“Maaan I am STILL on a cloud!” Da Brat wrote in her caption. “Our little Minion baby shower was soooo BEAURRRRTIFUL. OMG From the decor to the delectable food to the decadent desserts to the FABULOUS FAMILY & FRIENDS who came out to my wife’s ass in the air twerking to the delicious specialty drinks.

Harris-Dupart also took to Instagram to share similar sentiments and thanked their friends and family that made the day so special.

“Yesterday was our #MINION themed baby shower,” she wrote. “SOOOOO MUCH LOVE IN THE BUILDING. It was so much fun with friends and family … WE LOVE ALL OF YOU THAT CELEBRATED WITH US. #BabyHarrisDupart.”

Da Brat and Harris-Dupart shared their baby news with the world in February, revealing to PEOPLE magazine that they used an anonymous sperm donor to impregnate the “Funkdafied” rapper.

While the couple have clearly been on cloud nine throughout the pregnancy journey, the road to having their first child together hasn’t been smooth. Da Brat had to undergo surgery to remove fibroids and polyps prior to her embryo transfer procedure — and then came a heartbreaking miscarriage.

“I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted,” she told PEOPLE. “I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”

Da Brat came out as gay back in 2020, telling Variety in an interview that she kept her sexuality a secret for almost 20 years because of longstanding homophobia in Hip Hop.

“Both misogyny and homophobia created a culture where coming out would have been career suicide for a black woman in Hip Hop,” she said. “I’ve always felt like being private is the better way to go, because then you don’t have so many people in your business.

“I was fine staying quiet, but my partner is a social media mogul — that’s how she became who she is. And when you get with somebody, you have to meet in the middle. So to me, the middle was just letting everybody know: ‘Hey, she’s the one.’”

She went on to say that disclosing her relationship with Harris-Dupart wasn’t planned and that she reportedly didn’t even tell her manager at the time.

“Oh, my God, the reaction made me feel like, ‘Why didn’t I do this shit years ago?’” she said. “I got so many positive messages, phone calls, and I had at least 1,500 texts. My DMs were flooded too. Granted, some of the comments were served with a side of snark.

“There were some people saying, ‘We knew it.’ Well, good for you! Now I know it, and I’m able to say it. I did this on my own terms. If I can inspire someone or help somebody to deal with their issues and their sexuality, then I’m here for it,” she added. “It feels like a weight has been lifted.”
