Country Music Icon Kenny Rogers Hopes To Collaborate Again With Wyclef Jean

Kenny Rogers is known for his Country music career and his popular Kenny Rogers Roasters chicken chains. The 72 year-old Houston, Texas native has worked in Hip Hop before though. On Wyclef Jean‘s 2000 sophomore album, The Ecleftic: Two Sides To A Book, Rodgers was joined by Organized Konfusion’s Pharoahe Monch for the simply-titled “Kenny Rogers – Pharaoh Monch Dub Plate.”

On the song, Rogers reworked his 1978 hit “The Gambler” into Monch’s popular hit of the year “Simon Says.”

Ten years later, Rogers recently told Gannett.com, that he considers The Fugees member a friend, and hopes to make more music together. Noting that his role in their previous work was more talking than singing on his part, Rogers said, “I’d like to do something with him that’s musical, for lack of a better term, because he’s a very big guy in Haiti — that’s where he’s from — and I have a really good following down there. I think we could do something musically very interesting.”

Rogers’ last album was 2006’s Water & Bridges. Wyclef Jean will be soon releasing If I Were President: The Haitian Experience, an EP on Columbia Records.
