Cordae Puts Greedy Capitalism On Blast With ‘Taxes’ Single For Netflix’s ‘We The People’

Cordae is lending his voice for Barack and Michelle Obama’s latest Netflix series.

We The People, a 10-episode animated civics lesson produced by the Obamas, debuts on Netflix on July 4 (Sunday) and the Grammy-nominated Cordae riffs on capitalism, corporations and more for the single “Taxes.”

Produced by Take A Daytrip, Cordae runs down the differences regarding tax brackets, Uncle Sam and the ultimate question of where the money actually assists communities across the country. “So you gotta vote, bruh, and it’s super beneficial,” he raps on the song. “‘Cause you have a say in who’s your local officials/And they decide on how to slice the pie/And how to spend the budget to help the general public.”

Janelle Monáe, H.E.R., Daveed Diggs and others contribute songs to the series, which has been touted as an update of the ’60s and ’70s children’s program Schoolhouse Rock with Hip Hop and R&B.

Cordae himself has kept busy in 2021. Recently, he featured on Nas’ ’90s era single “Life Is Like A Dice Game” alongside Freddie Gibbs. Earlier this year, he announced he would be giving back to underrepresented communities attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities with the help of ESPN’s The Undefeated and Disney’s Dreamers Academy.

“So many people need the money more than I do,” he said in a statement. “I feel as though when you’re in such a blessed position, it’s important to pay that forward to be a blessing to others. It’s especially important to me to invest in our youth and the future. Young people are the future of our society and the world, so we must do all we can to ensure they are properly positioned to succeed.”

    1. don’t talk to me about capitalism. the system works providing more people give a bit now and again and a lot of money if you have it is invested well. i am a right wing moderate i donated a nintendo switch to the childrens hospital and i will be going there again to donate nintendo switch games. when i have a lot of money, if i have a lot of money, i will be a regular charlatan wanting to help when i can. hundreds of thousands of people here and i was the only one to give in that way… ever? come on now. everyone needs to look at themselves in the mirror my brother.

      1. Fam, why would you get on here and use the word “charlatan” if you didn’t know what it meant? You had the nerve to spell it correctly too. No, fam…no.

    2. This is the same clown who was just bragging about how much money he made from investing in stocks during the pandemic in some interview last month. He was sure happy to talk about how great capitalism was.
