Childish Gambino has revealed that he’s had a change of heart when it comes to marriage and quiely tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Michelle White.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter alongside his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star Maya Erskine, Donald Glover candidly revealed that although marriage wasn’t initially in his plans, he has come to embrace the concept of a lifelong union of love.

“Donald, the last time I interviewed you, seven years ago, you didn’t believe in marriage. ‘It doesn’t serve the purpose I would want it to serve,’ you told me,” asked THR‘s Lacey Rose.

Before he could answer, Erskine dropped the bombshell announcement that he’d recently jumped the broom — during a one-day stint away from filming, no less.

“There was a day where I don’t think we had to be on set until noon or 1, so, I was like, ‘Can we get married today?'” he said. “I got married in the morning. We had a real wedding afterwards, too. [That night, though,] we went to our favorite restaurant and then her parents and my mom were waiting for us at the house.

Glover and White’s love story first went public in January 2016 when they were seen vacationing together in Hawaii. Since then, the couple have welcomed three sons.

As for what prompted the change of heart, the actor-musician revealed: “I think what happened was, well, number one, I didn’t know what I was getting out of it. I felt like I knew what she was getting out of it, and I didn’t feel like she was being honest, necessarily, about what she was getting out of it. I was thinking about it in such a silly way, which I see now.

“Now I realize, yeah, maybe she’s gaining some stuff, but she’s also losing a lot of stuff. And we eventually had an honest talk and she was like, ‘I’m a traditional woman.’ And when she said that, some part of me was like, ‘And I want to help you be that.’ Whatever she needs me to be, that makes me happy.”

He added: “Especially nowadays, finding trust is so hard, and the fact that we have this and that we can even argue about it and still be like, ‘But I love you’ — I mean, how many people have that?”

In music news, Childish Gambino recently named Kanye West as his “G.O.A.T. rapper,” although he acknowledged it was a controversial pick given Ye’s antisemitic comments.

“I know that’s controversial, but I feel like we would not have any of the rappers we have now without him. That’s just for me,” he said during an appearance on Complex‘s “G.O.A.T. Talk” series.
