Chief Keef’s Cousin Big Glo A.K.A. Blood Money Murdered In Chicago, Illinois

Chief Keef’s cousin, Mario Hess, also known as Blood Money or Big Glo, was shot and killed in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, yesterday (April 9), according to the Chicago Tribune.

The Glory Boyz Entertainment rapper, 33 at the time of his death, was reportedly shot at least 10 times. Glo, who reportedly signed with Interscope Records recently according to his manager, was found south of a red Cadillac Escalade, according to reports, surrounded by four vacant lots. He was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Law enforcement officials say two shooters opened fire on Elizabeth Avenue at approximately 9:45pm yesterday. More than 24 shell casings were found on the street. Evidence markers were reportedly placed on the pavement to track the casings, but those markers were blown across the street due to wind.

An unidentified 28-year-old man was also wounded in the shootout, according to the paper. He was taken to the hospital and is in serious condition. His relationship to Glo is not known.

Glo’s manager, Renaldo Reuben Hess, spoke with the Chicago Tribune about violence in Chicago.

“It’s a lot of crime and violence in Chicago,” Glo says. “These Rap guys are being targeted, so you know, just trying to get him outside the neighborhood. He’s from the streets…He was basically trying to just get his Rap career together because that’s a good opportunity…They gave him some money up front. It was a good chance for him to get himself out the hood…I basically had an intuition about…just telling him he really needs to move out of Chicago. He was trying to get the rest of this money and stay off the streets.”

Glo had several legal problems throughout his life, including 36 different cases, the Tribune reports. In 2002, he was charged with manufacturing and delivering cocaine. He reportedly pleaded guilty and had some of the charges dropped. He was credited for almost 200 days time served. In 2007, Glo was charged with a weapons violation, including aggravated battery and a possession of a firearm by a felon. He pleaded guilty and was again given credit for time served.

In April 2008, January 2009 and April 2013, Glo was charged with possession of 30 to 500 grams of marijuana. He pleaded guilty to each case and was given jail time and credit for time served.

In the 2013 case, Glo was given probation for the marijuana possession charge. He was then accused of violating probation soon after.

Earlier this month, police identified a person of interest in a shooting that took place at Chief Keef’s manager’s house. Law enforcement officials say Keef was in the manager’s home in Northfield March 26, the day someone inside the home was shot and wounded. Keef was reportedly a passenger in the vehicle that transported the seriously wounded man at a local hospital. Keef was questioned about the incident and was released.

HipHopDX extends its condolences to Big Glo’s family, friends, fans and associates.

    1. A life taken too soon. Just think of all the potential and amazing things he could’ve done had his career not been cut short by a stray bullet. I’ll be praying for his family. Keef must be devastated. *sigh*

      1. I don’t know if you read the article correctly or understood what it said, but that man did not die because of a stray bullet. He was shot at least 10 times and there was 24 shell casings discovered at the scene as well as whoever was with him was also shot and is in critical condition. So this isn’t the case of some innocent person walking down the street or being at a park and randomly being hit qith a deadly bullet, this man was targeted by someone and sadly enough mission accomplished for whoever set out to kill him and another life lost in Chicago.

      2. I’m still in mourning, yo. I’m not in my right mind at the moment. This is a very sad day for me and the citizens of Englewood.

      3. potential? yeah he had the potential to kill you, potential to sell your mom crack and potential to do anything he wanted with his crew

        good riddance

    2. The midwest is filled with violence chicago, detroit, Milwaukee, st.louis, cleveland etc thats the culture out here sadly .

      1. The mil does have that issue…women was just killed at a light. They was gunning for another person across the way. SAD

    3. 36 charges lol

Dude had a deal with interscope and money up front, he could have avoided this if he wanted, instead he chose to remain in the same surroundings that got him 36 criminal charges on his jacket. I’ll save my tears for the people who die in chicago that wanted a way out and didn’t have one, this guy obviously was attracted to the bullshit.

      1. as much as i love big l, he fell into the same trap, he should of stayed away from the criminal lifestyle after he became famous and he would still be alive today. I can see the same happening to chief keef if he oesn calm down.

      2. big l was not involved in the “criminal lifestyle”

his brother was and big l was stubborn and wouldnt leave the neighborhood when dudes wanted his brother dead so they got big l because his brother was locked up

      3. a contract and cash doesn’t mean you live a good life

the saying is more money, more problems little kids, go get a life before you talk about life

    4. LOL, I was so fucked up at first. I was like, “Poor Chief Kamachi”. Then I read it twice… Oh well, that’s the thug life.

      1. In the long run, it’s a good thing Jojo got killed. He would have just brought more misery to Chicago, like Keef and every other gang banging trash are doing now.

    5. It’s about to be a hot summer down there. Thank god I don’ like in that fucking hell hole. Unless the Martial Law is called, and the army is sent down there a lot of bodies are going to drop, which may include innocents due to stray bullets.

Chiwire Season 6 coming this summer, it’s a real thing.

      1. Listen them lil Ninjas in Chi are straight nuts. Man the gang life is real. You got 8 rival gangs in a two block radius.

    6. Chief Keef is destroying his rap career doing that running around gun stuff. He’s got a deal with Kanye and has dropped a hit single. He needs to leave the streets before he ends up like every other “tough” guy in Chicago. Dead or turning into a homo in prison

      1. he doesnt have a deal with kanye…

and chief keef isnt doing shit in the streets…hes talking shit about dead gang members while hes on the west coast or making videos with guns from the comfort of his home in the suburbs

    7. its astonishing the numbers of up and coming “rappers” that never get any shine or coverage on HHDX until they get murdered.

    8. this shit ain’t gonna end well for keef and his crew. sadly it’s inevitable.”

If it ever does happen, he would be rightfully regarded as a legend alongside biggie.

      1. No it’s not. He got that deal with interscope and gucci mane. He eating well. Remember, biggie was labeled as wack before he died.

      2. so because he has a record deal that means hes gunna eat for a long time…
dont believe the numbers that were thrown out there when he signed to interscope that was apparently how much the deal was worth…

and a deal with gucci mane doesnt mean jack shit…gucci cant even sell more than 3,000 units a week when his shit drops….

      3. 1. Interscope is supporting keef all the way through. He’s doing fine.

        2. Gucci Mane couldn’t promote his albums due to him being in jail.

      4. how do you know what interscopes doing for keef aside for paying for this dumbass’s rehab?

this idiot didnt even show up to his first official video shoot what makes you think hes nothing more than a ho to interscope?

and gucci mane sold 3k when he was out of jail dissing everyone…

      1. it’s herd beein a reall nygguh frum thu stret. espeshully wen yor unedukated end hav problums speeeling commin werds that thay shood hav taut you in sekund grayd

    9. RIP to dude’s cousin. More of us die due to fratricide than at the hands of cops. This is fucked up.

    10. Chief Keef is next…if he doesnt change and leave all that stupid ghetto life behind him.And from the looks of things he needs some education or something. That kid dumb like dead wood.

    11. nah but really them clout niggaz prolly did it. they #1 jealous clowns up in this bitch n got goons on every block

    12. Chicago really is just too fuckin wild to be hanging round on the streets unless u got a glock

      1. fuck a glock you need an army and that bitch, tha chi is like a 3rd world country now, I would rather go back to Iraq or Afghanistan than go to that shit. You at least know who the enemy is there.

    13. That is why you choose the CONSIOUS/LYRICAL route which Common and Lupe are heavyweights of (and Kanye was part of before he got huge)…the drill/trap/gangbanger lifestyle ends with you being boxed in in either a cell or a casket.

      1. drill is entertaining, conscious is just dudes spittin lectures and tellin you what to think and do on the mic.

    14. I certainly hope that keef’s fellow GBE members remember this brave & fallen soldier who put his life on the line for the homies. as his soul rests in heaven, keef will have to continue pioneering the music that him and Young Chop made them legends. Peace.

    15. Honestly, HipHopDX writes too much. Just get to the point. Especially for this article, this guy just died and you casually bring up all of his charges and then extend your condolences?

    16. All these Chicago rappers like Keef, Reese, and Durk have to leave that environment. I know thats your home and all you know but there wasnt love there growing up and wont be love there now that your rich. If they stay they’ll drop like flies out there. RIP to Blood Money
