Chief Keef Unable To Breakdown His Lyrics, Drops A Freestyle Instead

Recent Interscope Records signee and “I Don’t Like” rapper Chief Keef seemed a bit unsure of himself as he attempted to breakdown his song lyrics for Rap Genius’, fan-focused Verified Explanation series in a video that was posted yesterday (August 1).

“Did you hear what she said? I don’t understand none of that shit,” said Keef after receiving an explanation of what the Verified Explanation series is and what was expected of him.

The video also shows the Chicago rapper getting high before tackling what was supposed to be his Verified Explanation lyrical breakdown. Not one to disappoint, Chief Keef did instead drop a brief freestyle.

Chief Keef signed to Interscope Records June of this year and his record “I Don’t Like” has gained well over 10 million views on YouTube and also garnered a remix featuring fellow Chicago rapper Kanye West.

    1. if you cant even comprehend shit anymore it might be time to quit smoking weed…especially if your only 16 like this retard.

    2. Lol WTF his mom was wreckless with his head when he was an infant. He makes waka look like a scholar

    3. ALL scripted to create controversy, but you fucking idiots will fall for the trap over and over again.

    4. Look how many clicks he already got, waaay more than all the super lyrical guys, yall don’t know how you make money.

    5. If it wasn’t clear enough with niggas like Waka and Gucci rising to fame, it should be clear to EVERYBODY at this point what major record labels’ agenda is. Interscope’s new rap hero can’t even understand when somebody simply asks him to explain his lyrics (maybe RapGenius is at fault for this failure since I doubt his lyrics even NEED an explanation.)

I understand he’s only 16 or 17, but C’Mon SON!! Major labels seem to want to put out the most ignorant niggas they can find and make them rap stars. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but if you think Chief Keef ain’t just another pawn in the media’s agenda to make the world think of American Black men as ignorant, uneducated, gun-toting fools, the jokes on you. smh

      1. Just stop it. we have enough examples of successful black men to not be associated with every example of ignorance. If you do associate this as the mass example of black men you are propogating the same trickaknowledge and stereotype as the original ignorants or just plain ignorant yourself. Be strong and intelligent enough to understand this is entertainment and be an example of the truth and the children will learn. until then shut your mouth, bringing awareness and downplaying something you cannot change or wont…

      2. @Really—you sound very ignorant to the ways of the world.I believe the point Mu was making is that this is what is pushed out to the world and general public as an overall representation of young blk men.Of course there are success stories but if you do not live in the US or do not seek out these examples they will often remain hidden from the general public.Especially in countries that listen to American music but not news of our accomplished scholars and professionals.Major music labels putting an idiot on television and the radio reaches far more people in a shorter time span than a normal citizen being an example of truth.

      3. It is quite the opposite I am intelligent enough to understand what really matters. If anyone in any country seeks this entertainment out and then rationalizes it as an overall representation of all black men then they are beyond hope and we should write them off. My comment was more to the ones like urself doing more damage by overcomplaining about what this is doing to the youth when it should be chalked up as just entertainment. Only a psuedo intellectual would give credence to such a notion or overstate the influence of entertainers as chief keef. selling buffoonery as entertainment is not exclusive to blacks therefore Mu nor yourself should exacerbate the problem by bringing attention to a null issue.no one thinks pedagogy is entertaining therefore professors and teachers are not rappers. ,it is what it is, be smart enough to know the difference and you be an example of the alternative for the children, you all are lazy in thinking art and entertainment are responsible for education.Stop perpetuating lies and stereotypes for the original ignorants and teach its all entertainment not representation.#caseclosed #dead

      4. ^^^^ that was my post put your name in the wrong spot.shut you down none the less. I would appreciate a respone though lets keep the discussion on the new strategy of progress going and I will explain how your old civil rights jesse and al thinking is played out.

      5. REALLY

you must not know how kids learn…entertainment isnt just entertainment that will be thrown away as soon as the tv goes off, kids immulate this and think its acceptable. Its really up to the parent but tv and radio has a huge grip on todays youth..thats why when some dance or phase is uttered it immediately becomes popular..kids arent as open or even smart enough to know how vast the music really is..hes not gunna see somethin on tv and see his friends doing the same thing and think “well imma go find some other music”..doesnt work like that

      6. @The Boston Strangla – Thank you, somebody gets it. @Really?? How is it that I am the one “propogating the same trickaknowledge and stereotype”? That’s a stretch. All I’m saying is, there was a time when mainstream hip-hop music had balance.. ppl like Chuck D and Ice Cube made good music but left you with something to think about. Do you really think the powers that be wanted a nation full of young, impressionable youths hearing the TRUTH about what this country is about and why thier hoods are so fucked up? Consider this: Chief Keef has no talent or intellect (from what I can tell) and Interscope can’t wait to push his album to misguided kids that they know think this shit is cool. Lupe Fiasco has talent AND intellect and Atlantic gave him hell because he wants to actually talk about issues of substance and forced him to put out “Lasers” against his artistic will. If that’s not pushing an agenda, I don’t know what is

    6. Notice all of those “Williamsburg Brooklynite Hipsters” around him…Molding their next caricature for mass appeal. Some things never change.

      1. They’ll probably go home and write another “ten things you didn’t know about Chief Keef” piece for Complex

    7. so let me get this straight…whoever is running “rapgenius” or whatever this thing that keef was supposed to do, didn’t get what they wanted out of him so released this video to make him look bad instead?…somewhat of a bad business decision cause if i was a rapper i would’nt want to work with these people

    8. ahhhha chief keef rollin up toothpick blunts get your smoke up chief you dont chief shitttt son s
mall blunts thats the shit i dont like
immature rappers who dont know how to rock the mic
thats the shit i dont like
youngs kids who cant smoke right
thats the shit i dont like
hitting the volcano bag and getting too high
thats the shit i dont like

    9. I dont even think he would understand his lyrics while super high or not LOL. Not even I can comprehend his stupid ass lyrics.

      1. Isn’t that around the age people start smoking? Shit’s been like that forever. And regardless of age that shit is illegal, so I don’t see why it matters what age you are (as long as you’re not in kindergarten or some shit) With alcohol some people will say “Why don’t you wait until you’re 21?” there’s no argument like that for weed so there’s really no point in waiting.

    10. All you self righteous hipsters please step down from your soapbox. Nobody of any color finds couth, class and sophistication entertaining. Therefore buffoonery sells this is not exclusive to blacks nor is it a new phenomenon…spare us your psuedo enlightenment and recognize this does not represent all of us. stop propogating trickaknowledge for them.

      1. And all you dumbasses kill yourselves. We need more stimulation than this garbage. If there was balance you would have a point. I’ve just never seen anyone into this grow out of it. Further more you could see all the hipsters in the video so obviously you have you demographics fucked up. They dig this bullshit too.

      2. Actually I dig ignorant rap too but I am smart enough not to complain like this is the only option. There is balance but it is not mass produced and shoveled to lazy fans. Enlightment takes effort, education is not packaged and sold on shelves for 10.99. Dont not blame nor seek elevation from chief keef it is not of his essence you can not blame a dog for being a dog nor seek science from a dog. i have no problem with hipsters but those who are too lazy to seek an alternative and complain of the things brought to the dinner table. if you dont like hamburgers dont go into mcdonalds and ask for pizza and then complain there is no balance when youre too lazy to walk across the street to dominos, both have a place and a need. damn that analogy was so valid and on point.woooo*ric flair voice.

      3. obviously you can get good music, because theres thousands of talented people
but when this “shit” becomes mainstream and is representing the rest of hip hop/rap culture thats where the problem comes in.
No one is saying that we are forced to listen to it, but the casual rap fan is, and if he hears this they are gunna be put off and not have the desire to dig deeper

    11. HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

THERE’S NO NEED FOR ANYONE TO EVEN COMMENT ANYTHING, THIS NIGGA JUST EXPLAINED IT ALL!!!!

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

      FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!

    12. Wow & you lames want to support this trash. The lil homie can’t even break down his music how pathetic. It’s no wonder the kids music sucks & of course so many kids listen to his lame songs because it’s kids bop they can sing along to it. Let’s get back to the real Hip Hop such as C.o.B., HorseShoe G.A.N.G., Crooked I, One-2, Roe, Tim West, P.W.T., Karelezz, Sauce tha Boss, Iceman, Coniyac Da X.O., Big Pho, Eminem, Keith murray you know real MCs Nas, Kweli, Jay-z, Biggie, Pac

    13. Who the fuck writes a song and can’t break the lyrics down?? I mean, seriously…I was 12-13 when I first started and even then I was able to say exactly what each line was about…smh

      1. You had a completely different upbringing. This kid grew up with little to no education, surrounded by poverty, violence, drugs and gangs. Think about that, and about how he’s a young kid who can get away from all that through this rap game. How can you hate on that?

      2. so was almost every other rapper. especially the pioneers and they all put out good quality music with a message back then. dont make excuses for these idiots.

    14. Doesn’t really matter, he’s a kid and he’s staying in his lane. He makes that ignorant, violent, simple yet catchy music. This is the 16 year old Chicago version of Waka Flocka. Don’t listen to them looking for intelligent lyrics, it’s party/gangbang/lift weights music.

Btw that Russian Roulette with Fat Trel goes hard.

    15. You say it’s just entertainment and you understand the difference but the adolescents watching cable while mommy or daddy are working can’t tell the difference. Teenagers are copying whatever is in so perhaps they can be “next”, many of them are not being entertained, then opening a pdf file or an eBook to learn something. They see Keef as finally getting to the money, not he’s in a million dollar debt.

Be careful because you are quietly co-signing entertainment over learning a trade or skill to have an actual career. A roofer, electrician, plumber can make just as much as a b-list rapper. And quiet as kept the reason why n#gg#s want to be entertained so much is they wasted so many opportunities due to lack of preparation. Why? They were too busy being ENTERTAINED.

      1. Thats a stretch but you hit the nail on the head the problem is not the choices it the lack of parents educating thier kids on reality. If the parents are substituting television for real babysitters thats the problem not the choice left available to them. Raise your kids and they wont fall victim even in your absence.Anything else is an excuse.

      2. yall both right and I like the way yall thinking….hope yall pass this kind of thinking to these kids out here cause they need it…i will do the same too

      3. The parents are not always around Really. Grandma or auntie or that paid babysitter will make them “watch TV”. The neighbors across from me have two kids, dad is in the Marines, mom works twelve hours a day to hold the home down because they kind of overpaid for their house. The kids are bounced around according to whoever has time and the parents speak the same language we do, but cannot be around for every single moment to direct. I’m not here to downplay your sentiments Really but are just stating there are other intangibles that fit into this situation/problem/equation. A well raised child with both parents around can still turn into a hardened criminal, they gravitated towards what they liked. There are no guarantees.

And yes I do pass this thinking on to the kids around me. I have two scheduled days per week. I start with a pizza party and an iPod and once I see where they are because I listen, I take them to the observatory, museum, farmland. You will be surprised how many teenagers do not know lettuce grows from the ground and have never seen a deer or a planet through a telescope, but know Waka’s “Hard In The Paint” song line for line.

Sometimes you have to help out w/o pointing fingers.

      4. It takes a village to raise a child. A parent isn’t always around. What about when the child is at school, in sports, at a friends house, etc. We’re all in this together because when your kids grow up they will be living in the same world as mine.

    16. she damn sure didnt ask about his effin phone, just trying to get around it. this nigga wasnt too high he’s just too fucking stupid.

    17. LMFAO YALL CLOWN NIGGAS ARE BLIND..YALL TALKIN THAT SWEET TALK BOUT HIM NOT BREAKING DOWN HIS LYRICS (OF COURSE HE DOESNT WANT TO EXPLAIN HIS LYRICS..ONLY HIS REAL AND HOOD SMART FANS WILL UNDERSTAND IT NOT THAT WHITE HO)..BUT YALL TOO DUMB TO PASS ON HIS FREESTYLE HE DID..NO CELL PHONE NO NOTHIN ONLY AT 16..TOP 5 FREESTYLE OF 2012

    18. Some real knowledge being dropped in this thread. I find the number of white hipsters surrounding this kid mad suspect. It was like Jane Goddall was doing a study on the urban youths.

      1. yeah, they trying to figure out how he became a millionaire at the age of 16. get out of here you hater.

      2. yeah right. If you believe this kid got a million dollars in the bank off of one goofy single with a bunch of views on yt, then you are just as dumb as Keef is. At least he’s got weed and the age 16 to blame. You got no excuse.

        White girls get Justin Bieber.
        Black girls get Chief Keef.

Those white hipsters did a number on hip hop, just grinding it into the LCD.

    19. Rap Genius is killing hip-hop. Art is meant to be interpreted, not described by any person behind a keyboard and distributed as “truth”. You don’t get an instruction manual with a painting, or a copy of the author’s intentions when you watch a movie. Just listen to the music and decide for yourself what it means to you, but don’t be ignorant.

      1. Not necessarily man, hip hop is pretty straight forward, it’s not like some avant garde lyrics that are left up to interpretation.. Lyrics of other genres are much more ambiguous, and rap genius is cool to hear others’ interpretations.. I looked up memory lane by elzhi and got a whole different dynamic to it.. The beginning and end of the song tie a big metaphor together which I didnt catch before..
        /2cents

    20. It’s not that he couldn’t breakdown his lyrics. He just didn’t breakdown his lyrics. Of course he knows what he’s saying.

    21. I’m not surprised at all. I’m sure the only thing he can break down is a Swisher and a weed stem.

    22. This dude is the embodiment of everything wrong with Chicago youth. A prime example of why we have the highest murder rate in the U.S. Imagine thousands of Chief Keef’s running around the South and West sides and you can see why we have problems.
