Late last week, Dame Dash’s appearance on The Breakfast Club turned the Roc-A-Fella cofounder into a trending topic on Twitter in part due to his heated conversation with the show’s cohosts DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God.
Specifically, a question from DJ Envy about how Dame met Jay Z set the former record executive off and led to Dash shutting down any future questions about Hov.
In the latest edition of his The Brilliant Idiots podcast with Andrew Schulz, Breakfast Club cohost Charlamagne reacted to Dame’s appearance and some of the philosophy he shared on the show.
“Dame wasn’t hostile,” Charlamagne said. “Fredro [Starr] was hostile. Dame was what I expected him to be.”
Offering his take on what Dash was trying to accomplish during the interview, Charlamagne eventually offered that the serial entrepreneur is actually a “culture vulture.”
“When I watch back the interview, you see so many flaws in his argument, and you realize how dangerous the rhetoric was,” Charlamagne said. “If you’re a bussinessman, a boss like you say, it’s very dangerous to not show any respect for your customers. When you say things like, ‘There’s no pride in having a job.’ You’re shitting on your employees and you’re shitting on the everyday consumer who’s driving in their car saying, ‘I’ll never go into his son’s restaurant. I’m never gon’ buy his son’s cookies. I’m not buying Damon Dash’s fucking movie ’cause he don’t give a fuck about me.’ And in a lot of ways that makes you a culture vulture. What is a culture vulture? A culture vulture they say is a white guy who’s not of Hip Hop who is the head of these companies who in some people’s minds doesn’t care about the culture, they’re just profiting off of it. So if you don’t give a fuck about the consumer, if you don’t give a fuck about the regular, everyday person with a nine-to-five job, you look down on them, they don’t have no pride in themselves, then you’re just making money off of them. In a lot of ways you’re a fucking culture vulture. You don’t respect them, you don’t respect what they do. You just wanna make money off of them.”

Aww Charlemagne sounds mad. Maybe if he didn’t troll the man he would understand Damon Dash was talking to Charlemagne and DJ Envy, guys that have money and should start investing in themselves. not Everyday people. We all start somewhere. Besides He sounds mad because he was put on blast and ended up looking bad, He mad he took that L.
naw dude he wasnt just talking to them he was literally talking down on anyone who has a boss and isnt an owner/ceo.
Why not tell dame this while he’s sitting there? not two weeks after the interview. He ‘ just mad cause Dame made him realize he’s natural born ‘order taker’. Nothing wrong with working really, but you should always have a view to something bigger.
DAME DASH CANT EVEN SUPPORT HIS FUCKING KIDS
Go own shit that’s the only way we as Black people Gonna have control of our own lives and community .dame is right
Dame don’t even pay child support.
Fuck charlamagne he is a donkey . You never get what dame is trying to say cuz you are a donkey of all times
Dame was real weak for shittin on Envy like that. Not everyone wants to be a CEO. Some don’t want the added stress and responsibility of making sure other people eat; all he has to worry about is his fam. Can’t hate on someone for that. And he was getting on him for a 9-5, which he actually works a 6-10 doing something he loves so it’s not really a job. Envy is a millionaire so he can’t be doing too bad, hell Dame even said he’s up and down financially sometimes. What I got from the interview is that if u don’t agree with Dame then he feels ur wrong, ridiculous smh…no wonder he starting over. I bet Emvy don’t have to sell $10 dvds to make ends meet lol.
Damon Dash called his ex wives black lawyer a culture vulture for trying to collect the back child support he owes her, LMFAO.
He’s a chatty patty!
hahahha these nerds don’t know how to respond to the REAL sh** dame was saying. He put them all in check and showed them hes a boss. They alwasy try to make fun of people being broke or whatever and worship Jay-Z. Dame let them have it.
Your either a Boss or worker, get it.
Real talk…dame pulled their skirt up on this one & they hate that.
AT LEAST ENVY AND CHAR SUPPORT THEIR KIDS UNLIKE DAMON
Dame was talking in circles. They asked dame how did you get your money to start your company or how can someone do it if they dont work? he danced around the question. people complain about the unemployment rate and dame tells everyone to quit their job with no formal training in that market, dont save your money because its for suckers and start your own company lmfao. good luck folks.
Gay marriage is not allowed in NY so Envy and Charlemagne both don’t got kids asshole.
It’s so funny how some people are defending dame dash when he’s literally insulting them. The being your own boss thing makes sense. But the overall interview was an insult. Whoever disagrees with my statement is misinformed and should really re-listen to that whole interview.
I’m a Dame fan. I have a 9-5 but his attitude is the reason I have something on the side now. He’s an inspiring person.
I still laugh at all of Dame’s “Big Boss” talk when he’s in bankruptcy court more than the bank these days.
Delusions of Grandeur.
bankruptcy is a business move pal. google trump.
Did you really just compare Trump’s assets to Dame Dash’s assets? Bankruptcy is NOT a business move when you are truly broke.
Dame has more money than you before and after bankruptcy.
Nice come back child.
If EVERYBODY is a boss or owner, who the fuck is going to do the work? Who are you going to employ? It is stupid. It’s like the saying “Too many chiefs, not enough Indians” or “Too many chefs in the kitchen.” Different people in life have different roles to play and different abilities and situations in life. We would all be fucked if we all HAD to play the same role to suit Dame’s idiotic expectations of what a man and what pride is.
You have to look at people realistically and have some fucking common sense. Not EVERYONE is a leader or risk taker. Not EVERYONE has the brains to run their own business. Not EVERYONE has the chance to earn the start up capital or get loans, or make the money hustling selling drugs which is how Dame, Jay Z, and Biggs got the money to start Roc A Fella and be high rollers in the hood before they got famous.
Not EVERYONE wants the RESPONSIBILITY of running their own business. Some people PREFER to work their 9-5 then leave then do what the fuck they want with their time after. Owning a business takes a huge amount of your time and energy, much more than a 9-5. Even more so if you can’t find employees cause everyone wants to be a fucking a boss cause it goes against their principles of manhood to work for you or anyone else.
If you can’t see the contradictions, stupidity, and short sightedness in Dames philosophy you are blinded by his $$$ and his over emotional nature. Just remember, Dame wouldn’t be where he is without drug money earned on the streets, and LOTS of it. Take that away, and Dame still probably would be successful, but bet that ass he would have had a real job. It’s also stupid to think that running drugs you DON’T have a boss. You don’t sell that work…you’re out of a job…and possibly even your life.
i wish everyone in the world could read this.
But…but…but…but..Dame isn’t white though.
I agree with charlamagne what Dame Dash was saying was one of the most stupid and ignorant things I have ever heard. Its one thing to say people must aspire to own to be their own businesses and become owner’s, but to insult those who are employed and making an honest living is stupid and especially if till want them to purchase your product with their hard earned money.
you in your feelings because dame suggested that no man should be proud to have a boss? nothing insulting about his words. watch the interview again.
Stop letting how you personally may feel about Charlemagne muddy the water. Dame’s whole demeanor was ignorant and that of somebody who is feeling himself way too much. Nothing but your typical chest pounding. Look at the true power holders in this world. They spend less time talking and more time working. Whether it for the customers or your employers, EVERYBODY works for somebody. You saw how mad he got just at the mention of Jay’s name right?
Dame saying this cuz jayz dropped him like a habit went from cocky in the penthouse to humble in a cardboard box. Dame u aint shit just shut up noone cares about ur opinion on anything except how not be fired by a billionair (jayz) for having a big mouth daily
I agree with the intentions of Dame …he was try a say lets own our own shit! …he jus said it wrong..
So Dame comes on The Breakfast Club and drops game on how to own your own business and make your own moves and Charlamagne talks mess after?
Come on man, that is wack as heck. First off, in business, he who controls the money controls the business. So Dame was very smart in putting up his own money. Why not? Why would you want to take money from someone and relinquish control of your project? Through out Dame’s interview I didn’t take anything as an insult. Black people need to start owning and controlling what they have. Lost respect for Charlamagne.
I disagree because if your business plan is approved by a bank for a loan, the owner(s) are in control of the business. Of course the owner would have to repay the loan and maintain good business in order to acquire new loans if needed and keep the business venture going. Dame seems to be ignorant of how most businesses operate using credit or maybe he didn’t mention credit because his sucks.
Maybe he didn’t mention credit because he earned his own start up Capitol, dumbass…
but he didnt say it to his face though?
Don’t be so soft. The dude is trying to help the world out, at least he has the balls to say it in public. I bet Charlamange’s boss feels the same way, and yours too they are just quiet about it. So who is better someone hiding their feelings or telling you the truth? He was telling them you could work for yourself, but they too scared to try
i agree with Charlamagne..everyone commenting should take a second to think..Dame was basically trashing everyone who works a 9 to 5, which is most of us..then he wants us to buy his products…haha..
He wasn’t trashing anyone. He simply stated that it was better to work for oneself than to be someone’s employee. If your initial reaction to that is to feel insulted, then you are emotionally weak and will likely never be your own boss.
WHY HE AINT SAY ALL THAT SHIT WHEN DAME WAS IN THE BUILDING. HE JUST MADD HE GOT SONNED HARD! FUCKING CHATTY PATTY
so you never think of something you should have said or done after the fact? i do that all the time.
Chatty PAtty Charlamagne is so focused on the fact that Dame dont care about the Consumer that he missed one of the most Powerful messages of our Culture. Listen to Dame’s message he is empowering folks to stop being lazy and settling for less when there is so much opportunity out here to capitalize off on your OWN. INVEST IN YOURSELF step outside the BOX!
Dame Dash is a clown. He’s theory is a total joke because the simple fact is not everyone can be boss. There have to be workers.
Everyone can start a business, but not everyone can be a boss.
I think he is saying that you don’t have to work for somebody else your whole life and make money for that family. How about your family don’t you want to leave a lasting legacy and some property to your sons and daughters grandchildren and so on. This how other culture keep ahead of our black people by leaving and everlasting investment to their own. Don’t sell yourself short and think you can’t be a BOSS.
There’s a difference. Dame may not car about the consumer but at least he cares about the content he puts out. The CEO’s that he referenced could care less about the product, consumer, or the negative effects on society.
