Charlamagne On The Confederate Flag: “Its Historical Context Is Hate”

Charlamagne Tha God recently revealed his view that the Confederate flag is nothing but a symbol of hate.

“In my whole life, I never thought the Confederate flag was anything but a symbol of hate,” the Power 105.1 radio personality said during a recent episode of MTV2’s Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne. “When I would see the flag on people’s cars or in their yards in my mind, I would already stereotype and profile them and say, ‘Well they must be racist rednecks.’”

Charlamagne, who was born and raised in South Carolina, continued by questioning those who look at the flag as a symbol of heritage, before outlining his view that the flag “empowers prejudice” and that it can “never be a good thing.”

“William T. Thompson creator of the Confederate flag in 1863, said, ‘As a people, we are fighting to maintain the heaven-ordained supremacy of the White man over the inferior or colored race,’” he says. “And this flag he designed would be the symbol of that cause. So when you say the flag represents heritage, do you mean white supremacy?

“Look people, its just some things historically you can’t change no matter how much you try,” Charlamagne adds. “To make a negative a positive, you can’t in some situations and the Confederate flag is one of those situations. The historical context of this flag is hate. It empowers prejudice. Too much blood is on that flag for it to ever be a good thing. Same way we as Black people keep trying to empower the n-word, even though historically it’s a negative thing, it’s the same way these good ol’ boys are trying to empower this racist ass flag.”

Charlamagne concluded the video by thanking the South Carolina House of Representatives for voting to remove the Confederate flag from the state’s capitol grounds.

    1. these are the same people who tell blacks to get over slavery but wave a flag of that era, that invoke bits and pieces of the constitution although there was a confederate constitution, who say our country when the union’s people didn’t believe what they believed in, who wish for the revival of confederacy which contradicts their patriotism. it’s deeper than a flag

    2. I agree with tha god regarding the rebel flag. Though I think the u.s.a flag should be removed/ changed as well. Today the u.s.a is a giant penitentiary with a flag
