Chance The Rapper has responded to Spike Lee’s comments regarding his father’s occupation as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Chicago mayor, Rahm Emanuel.
The two personalities have been going back-and-forth as of late regarding Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq, a film that Chance has publicly denounced.
“I mean, Spike Lee is saying that because he’s promoting a movie,” Chance said during an interview with WGCI 107.5 regarding Spike Lee’s recent comments. “He’s trying to make more money. He got his little $15 million from Amazon and his other little bread from Lionsgate and made a movie that was not about Chicago but manipulated and used Chicago actors and Chicago scenery to push this movie.
“It was an oversimplification of a bigger problem,” Chance The Rapper continued regarding Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq. “He wasn’t really focusing on the issues of Chicago, it wasn’t really about Chicago. To me, it was about this age-old conversation of black-on-black violence, which is to me some Bill Cosby ‘pull up your pants’ stuff. I’m just not for it.”
In a series of Twitter posts published earlier this month, Chance The Rapper decried Chi-Raq and Spike Lee.
“Let me be the one from Chicago to personally tell you we not supporting this film out here,” Chance tweeted on December 4. “That shit get ZERO love out here. Shit is goofy and it’s a bunch of ppl from NOT around here telling u to support that shit. The people that made that shit didn’t do so to ‘Save Lives.’ It’s exploitive and problematic.”

chance cmon man why would you think hes doing it for the money? its a satire with an important message to black on black crime get off this hatewagon and open your fucking eyes
Is that you, Spike?
Exactly. Looking at his film Malcolm X alone, it’s pretty clear he wasn’t concerned about the money. He was more concerned of making a (mostly) accurate representation of the man. The movie would have sold a lot more if it was faster-paced and not over 3 hours, but Spike didn’t give a shit about how much it sold. He wanted to do Malcolm justice.
Is that you Chance? See how that works dumba$$
So then why is that not the case with Chi Raq? That Lysistrata script was around before the savages came into the media light Spike just used what was going on in Chicago to get his movie sold when it got passed on by everyone the first go around when it was just a generic city….this is not the same “Do the right thing” “Malcolm X” Spike Lee…this is a washed up, “The inside man” Spike Lee trying to have some kind of relevance outside of being the NY Knicks mascot
Look who’s talking.
you buggin “Inside Man” is legit
Spike is outta touch with Chicago and this era….lay it down gramps
This lame still didn’t address what Spike said. Specifically that he is biased against against the film because his father works for the crooked mayor.
Homeboy still has a point. It’s not about Chicago, it’s about the same message that Spike Lee has had for the past 30 years.
That’s real, No response to what Spike said because it is the truth. People could actually make the same argument about his Father but big up to Chance, I do appreciate what he brings to the game
Did you listen to the interview? Nope
So no comment about his father… figures. Pussy.
Spike did this same thing when he made Crooklyn… used the hype around one of the most violent areas in the country at the time, titled the movie using the most popular slang reference the area’s known by, and then making the film a completely different theme. He got so much flack for it, he Clockers soon after, which depicted the real situation going on in Brooklyn at the time.
Rahm Emmanuel is controlling Chance thru Chance’s father?
Mmmmkay.
Idiots bruh idiots
Spike pulled lil nigga card.
This guy chance was acting like he was from the streets when your father is his brother.????????????????????
