Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion would love to star in a remake of Halle Berry and the late Natalie Desselle-Reid’s 1997 cult classic film B.A.P.S. – should an offer ever be on the table.

Sitting down for an interview with Slash Film that was published on Wednesday (March 2), the movie’s director Robert Townsend discussed the fan favorite and how much interest there is to make a sequel or a remake.

“There’s people that love, love, love the film and some people that didn’t get it,” Townsend said. “And those that love it – like you love it and you get it – I’ve had people go, ‘Hey, we want to do a remake.’ Everybody from Megan Thee Stallion to Cardi B is like, ‘Could we do…’ I mean, it’s like, I don’t know.”

The interest comes as little surprise, as Cardi and Megan’s multi-platinum 2020 collaboration “WAP” featured multiple nods to the film in the video, especially with their costumes.

Townsend is hesitant to take on the project, however, following the 2020 death of Desselle-Reid from colon cancer.

“It’s so funny because people want a sequel to that and … I don’t know. And then Natalie [Desselle] passed away,” he said. “But I would love to do a Criterion [Collection] on B.A.P.S. I really would.”

Though neither Megan Thee Stallion or Cardi B have taken on any starring roles in a movie just yet, Cardi nearly did before dropping out of a $30million film just days before production was set to start.

According to Deadline, Cardi exited her lead role in Paramount Players’ Assisted Living last March due to being “overextended.” Cast and crew were notified following two months of prep and millions of dollars already spent. The heads up came on a Thursday, with production set to start the following Monday.

The Bronx rapper was set to play “a low-level criminal on the run when she’s wrongly accused of a crime. She has to stay free long enough to prove her innocence and holes up at her grandmother’s retirement home. She fits in with the help of some old-lady prosthetics.”

Cardi has, however, made small appearances in 2019’s Hustlers — alongside Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart and Lizzo — and 2021’s Fast & Furious 9. Meg has also flexed her acting chops with an appearance in Disney+’s She-Hulk series.
