Cardi B didn’t submit her Megan Thee Stallion-featured “WAP” single for Grammy consideration because she was worried about what the internet would say.
The platinum-selling hitmaker revealed her trepidation during her recent sit-down with Jason Lee for his new eponymous REVOLT show.

“You know what?” Cardi began. “This is something that — it’s like, I need to stop letting the internet control my life. Because I didn’t want to submit ‘WAP’ because I was afraid that if I win or if I… You know what’s so crazy? The internet got me even afraid of winning. That is insane.”

The sex-positive smash arrived amid the pandemic in August 2020. Debuting in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, it made for the first female rap collaboration to do so while also making for the largest opening streaming week for a song in U.S. history at the time.
The track went on to spend four weeks on top of the chart and spent multiple weeks at No. 1 in several other countries as well. Just under two and a half years later, “WAP” has been certified seven-times platinum by the RIAA.

As for the Grammys, Bardi did take one home in 2019 when her debut, Invasion of Privacy, won Best Rap Album. She’s been nominated for Best Rap Performance for multiple singles since including “Clout” with her husband Offset and her 2021 single “Up,” but has not nabbed another trophy from the Recording Academy.
Cardi’s sit-down with Jason Lee has made multiple headlines this week, as the Bronx native was more candid than usual. At one point, she opened up about the moment she and Offset found out about TakeOff’s death.
“We were in bed. We were supposed to go to LaLa [Anthony]’s party in New York, and my daughter threw up all over my costume,” she said during the almost 90-minute episode. “Halloween was over ’cause it was just so much throw-up on the custome and I ain’t have nothing to wear.”
She added: “So we just fell asleep, and out of nowhere, Offset’s phone kept ringing, my phone kept ringing. Offset picked up the phone and he was just like, ‘No!’ He’s screaming and screaming. He’s screaming like, ‘No! No! No! No!’

“I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And he’s like, ‘TakeOff is dead.’ I smacked him and said, ‘Don’t say that!’ And then he’s just like screaming and throwing things, throwing up, running all over. And I was so scared, I was crying so much. It was terrible.”
