Cardi B has been reminiscing on the early days of her music career – before “Bodak Yellow” took over the world and changed everything for the Bronx native.
Taking to her Twitter on Wednesday (December 28), Cardi shared some promo images for her debut mixtape, Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1.

Released in March 2016, GBMV1 arrived during Bardi’s Love & Hip Hop: New York tenure and set the tone for what would go on to be a global music career. The tape’s cover featured the “Up” rapper receiving oral sex from a man while she drank a beer – which she ended up in a legal battle over.
Body art model Kevin Brophy Jr. claimed Cardi used his back tattoo and likeness in the cover art without his permission. In October, he sued Cardi for $5 million, but the jury ultimately sided with the Bronx rap star. Brophy then filed to overturn the verdict, but on Wednesday (December 28), U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney ruled that the request came too late and lacked merit.
He also ordered Brophy to begin paying the rapper’s attorney’s fees and costs.
The mixtape memories weren’t the only thing Cardi B has been reminiscing over this week. On Monday (December 26), a fan shared a clip of Cardi’s 2017 song “Lick” with Offset – who at the time wasn’t even her boyfriend yet. But after retweeting the clip, Bardi revealed she was secretly crushing on the Migos rapper when the video was shot.
“I couldn’t even breath doing this video …I was crushing hard on Set,” she wrote.

The track was released in May 2017 and was a fan-favorite at Cardi’s shows, but it would be eclipsed by the smash hit “Bodak Yellow” just a few months later.
