Damon Dash offered up his creative space, The Dash Gallery, last night in New York City’s ultra-chic Tribecca neighborhood to none other than Bun B for the evening. The UGK veteran played his third solo album Trill O.G. to a gallery full of media and fellow artists alike.
Rarely does an emcee have that much support from his peers at a listening event. Considering Bun B’s living legend status, coupled with the South in town for Vh1’s Southern fried edition of Hip Hop Honors, a sizeable turnout could be expected.
Those in attendance included Dash Gallery’s forefather Dame Dash, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug (who is on the Trill O.G. track “Riding Slow”), Asher Roth, Self Scientific’s Chace Infinite, and Mickey Factz, among others. Bun breezed through the 15-track soon to be classic, opening with the southern hymn “Church” and leading into the T-Pain assisted “Trillionaire.” Other cameos on the album include Young Jeezy on the bouncy “Just Like That,” and Drake on two tracks: “Put It Down” and the closer “It’s Been a Pleasure.” The most surprising track on Trill O.G. brings Bun B with his former UGK brethren Pimp C and Tupac Shakur who both posthumously bless the track “Right Now” with Trey Songz on the hook. DJ Premier puts his best Gang Starr foot forward, producing the epic “Let Em Know,” sending a nod to the late Guru.
Bun B was met with responses of thorough applause and whiplashing head nods in the smoke laced space as he smiled and mouthed the words to each song. “It’s been a pleasure,” Bun stated as he closed out the evening with the like titled track. He then proceeded to shake hands and prep for an aftershow in the basement featuring himself, The Cool Kids, and new school rapper on the rise Big K.R.I.T.
Trill O.G. hits stores on August 3rd.

If you hate on Bun B then you are hating on HIP-HOP!! PERIOD!! I bought the first UGK LP “Too Hard to Swallow” back in 1993 from a Sam Goody’s in Memphis,Tenn. The album wasnt even available in Birmingham,Al at the time. “Somethin’ Good” had not even taken off yet. Bun B falls rite in line with the best “#2 Men” in the history of hip-hop. RIght alongside DMC, Big Boi and MJG. The lesser publicized member of an all-time group, but just as important to the groups success as the “frontman” for lack of a better term. Bun B ALL-TIME!!!
