Brandy and Ray J‘s mother Sonja Norwood has spoken out following reports she was hospitalized for complications from an in-home IV treatment.
TMZ reported the hospitalization on Monday (November 6), writing that Sonja was home recovering after experiencing “sudden rapid breathing” while getting an IV of C and B vitamins, as well as calcium and magnesium.

According to the outlet, Ray J called an ambulance out of concern, and eventually his momager was checked out and given the all-clear.
Taking to her Facebook the following day, Sonja clarified that the incident happened weeks prior and reassured her concerned loved ones that she is more than okay.

“I don’t usually address stories about myself, but I was quite surprised to wake up to a call from a long-time friend/publicist asking, ‘Sonja, are you in the hospital, and are you okay?’” she began. “‘What? Where is that coming from?’ I asked. There was a TMZ story that I was not aware of. She sent the link, and when I looked at it, I frowned and said, ‘That was weeks ago.’ And, ‘They could have gotten my age right.’”
She continued: “Then the floodgates of concerns just took over my phone. I had no idea the responses would be so huge to the point I couldn’t address them one by one, so I felt the need to say something publicly. Thank God I am not in the hospital. I’m doing great! I did have a negative reaction to an IV VITAMIN Therapy WEEKS AGO! It was not a big deal.”

“I went to the hospital and got a big Grade A on my medical reports,” she added. “I seek medical attention if there could be a potential health issue at my age. That is about it! Nothing more or less! You guys are the best! Don’t be mad with TMZ.”

The Norwood family has always been very close, and last summer, Ray J showed his appreciation for his sister Brandy by inking a portrait of her on his leg as a thank you for helping him break through and navigate the music industry.
Designed by famous NYC-based tattoo artist Alex “Mashkow” Mashkov, Ray J was happy with the finished product, but TMZ caught up with the “Sexy Can I” singer at LAX soon after, and he revealed that big sis wasn’t too enthused with the artwork.

“It’s my leg and my sister,” he said. “She was a little uneasy about it, but if you check out Mashkow’s page, he’s one of the dopest tattoo artists. And it’s hard to get him to tat you, he’s booked for like two years. I like the tattoo.”
Ray J also revealed he didn’t have full creative control over the tattoo as Mashkow added diabolical features to Brandy’s eyes, which is his part of his signature style.
“That’s his style. I can’t tell an artist not to put his signature on it,” he added. “I love my sister and that was just a symbol of me saying, ‘Thank you for putting me in.’ If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be here. I’m humbled just to have her help me.”
Brandy didn’t speak about the tattoo publicly, but she did hop into Ray J’s Instagram comments section under a post of him getting the ink on July 5. “Brooooooo,” she wrote along with several heart emojis.
Ray J isn’t impacted by the haters’ thoughts and even though his sister didn’t like the tattoo, he admitted it’s growing on him as he just wanted to spread some love.

“Love kills hate,” he concluded. “I love my sister. She didn’t like the tattoo either. It’s growing on me. When you see my whole leg, you’ll understand.”
