Boosie Badazz can’t seem to wrap his head around Coi Leray‘s low album sales after her new Coi LP reportedly moved just 10,000 units in its first week.

Never one to hold his tongue, Boosie took to Twitter on Monday (July 3) to defend the self-proclaimed Trendsetter while calling out the gatekeepers who he believes pull the strings behind the scenes in the music industry.

The outspoken Baton Rouge native stated that Leray’s album should have sold at least 100,000 units due to her hitmaking ability, referencing the success of Billboard Hot 100 singles like “Players,” “Self Love” and “Baby Don’t Hurt Me.”

He also alleged that there could be some foul play involved since she’s the daughter of Benzino, the controversial former owner of The Source magazine.

“@coileray_SHOULD HAVE SOLD AT LEAST 100k the first week. ‘NOBODY RECENT GOT MORE HITS THAN HER’ either this shit rigged r CELEBRITY KIDS JUST GET HATED ON WHEN ITS TIME TO SWIPE,” Boosie wrote.

“MFS BE HATERS str8 UP MY FAM GO THROUGH the Same Shit WE AINT STOPPING THO BELIEVE THAT!”

Despite Boosie Badazz’s visceral rage, Coi Leray had a very different reaction and propped up Coi‘s No. 102 debut on the Billboard 200 as another victory in her burgeoning career.

“Grateful to have an album on the top 200 for my first week of my album release, again,” she tweeted on Monday. “This time with 3 hits on the hot 100 … woah. I’m super proud of myself. Bigger and better year every time. Keep streaming Coi. It’s an amazing album.”

The 26-year-old’s Coi arrived on June 23 and boasts 16 tracks. Among them are her viral single “Players,” the David Guetta-assisted “Make My Day” which samples Technotronic’s ’90s house hit “Pump Up the Jam,” “Spend It” with Saucy Santana and “No Angels” featuring Lola Brooke.

In other news, Coi Leray recently called on her female rap peers to come together for an updated version of Lil Kim’s 1997 classic “Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix).”

In a series of tweets last month, the New Jersey native pointed to the recent news that a rap song has yet to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023, and shared her plans to change that.

“Ain’t been a number one rap song at all this year,” she wrote. “Calling all the female rappers to front. Hear me out. Ladies night. Hip-hop. Unity.”

When a fan responded by saying that the abundance of current female rappers would call for there to be a “part 30” of the song, Coi Leary had an idea. “Some of us can share verses. Split it up. Back and forth. Ad-libs,” she said.

The original version of “Not Tonight” lived on Kim’s debut album, Hard Core. The following year, she released the “Ladies Night” remix featuring Da Brat, Missy Elliott, Angie Martinez and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
