Book Claims Death Row Records Was An FBI Front

In the book The FBI War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders: U.S. Intelligence’s Murderous Targeting of Tupac, MLK, Malcolm, The Panthers, Hendrix, Marley, Rappers & Linked Ethnic Leftists, it is claimed that Death Row Records was a front for the FBI in order to subvert black activism.

Columbia University graduate John Potash, the book’s author, says his research shows that the FBI deliberately target Tupac Shakur due to his influence in the African-American community through Hip Hop.

“What I think it was was that he had become the most influential black man in the black community in the country,” Potash, a Baltimore native, told The Baltimore City Paper. “The CIA and U.S. intelligence, what they have to do is win the hearts and minds of the people. They don’t want to control us by force, they want us to control ourselves by having us believe in a certain way–that we don’t need national health care, for example. And here, Tupac  was threatening to win over the hearts and minds of people, he was able to counter so much of the propaganda in the black community.”

The book includes the results of ten years of research, court testimony, FBI documents, and numerous documents from The Black Panthers provided to Potash.

“I believe that Death Row Records, which included dozens and dozens of police officers at all levels, according to a high-level police officer that investigated them, was a front company and was trying to continue penal coercion and mess up [Tupac Shakur’s] head,” added Potash.

A research documentary is paired with the book, which is in stores now.

    2. Handy, you obviously would fail a reading test if it asked you questions on what certain sentences meant in the passage…no where in this letter did Pac say he worked with the police…didn’t he win a lawsuit against the police…what this shit is saying to you is there were inner workings within Death Row that were placed there to mediate black power damage that can be caused by someone as influencial at Pac…

    6. (AllHipHop News) A new book being published claims that Death Row Records was actually a front for the FBI in an attempt to assault and end black activism.

The new book The FBI War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders: U.S. Intelligence’s Murderous Targeting of Tupac, MLK, Malcolm, The Panthers, Hendrix, Marley, Rappers & Linked Ethnic Leftists.

According to the book’s author, Baltimore area native and Columbia University graduate John Potash, he extensively researched the book, which claims to show the FBI’s consistent pattern of undermining black activism.

The book claims that Shakur was deliberately targeted by the government, like other black leaders, due to his growing influence in the African-American community, utilizing Hip-Hop music.

“What I think it was was that he had become the most influential black man in the black community in the country,” Potash told The Baltimore City Paper.

The FBI War on Tupac Shakur took ten years to research, utilizing court testimony, FBI documents and a number of previously unseen documents provided by The Black Panthers to Potash.

As for Death Row, Potash claims that the government was definitely involved in the record label’s operations, in a continued attempt to harass Shakur and derail his career.

“I believe that Death Row Records, which included dozens and dozens of police officers at all levels, according to a high-level police officer that investigated them, was a front company and was trying to continue penal coercion and mess up [Tupac Shakur’s] head,” Potash said.

A research documentary also accompanies the self-published book.

^^^ Plagiarism at its very finest folks…this exact same articles been up on AHH since Thursday y’all, VERBATIM. News flash: Omittin a few words here and changin up a couple words there does NOT mean you wrote the article!! LMAO

“Read between the lines, and question EVERYTHING.” — MalcolmLittle

      1. Oops I meant to say nearly verbatim, since there are a couple parts switched up. Still, I believe I made my point.

    7. I DEFINITELY believe the Feds were instrumental in both ‘Pac and Biggies death, I even wrote a blog about it a few months back but DX has this thing about people postin links to REAL shit (even though the spammers still run rampant). But as far as Death Row bein a front? HELL nah. The Feds were just able to infiltrate and get Suge to do their biddin for em, whether it was thru payoffs, threats or what have you. Yes it was just another COINTELPRO-type tactic to keep the masses from askin the type of questions ‘Pac was posin, no doubt about that, but I gotta call bullshit on the whole label bein a front.

“Read between the lines, and question EVERYTHING.” — MalcolmLittle

      1. first off, how and why would the feds be involved in biggies murder? I can understand your logic for the tupac murder, but biggie was not a political rapper. Second, any of the “documents provided by the Black Panthers” can be disregarded as incriminating evidence. It’s from a bias interest group. Second, i like that people are questioning the government and realizing governments intentions of control, but it all becomes useless when it becomes too extreme and doesnt make sense any more.

      2. @ MCRD101

Y’know I was typin a reply to your question about Biggie, cuz it’s a real good question that I was actually expectin someone to ask sooner or later. But the more I started typin, the more I started realizin it’d take me all night to fully break it all down how Biggie’s assassination fits into all this…which to me seemed pretty asinine, seein how I just put a link up on AllHipHop (where DX stole this story from) on Thursday to my blog which broke the whole thing down to the electrons, protons and neutrons of the situation. You seem like you might be really interested to at least hear where I’m comin from, so just go to this story on AHH and scroll down to my comment…same name, MalcolmLittle. Can’t miss me. Again that was a good question and I’m glad you asked. Stay up famo.

    8. wow!
      no mothafuckin surprise

people of power will always use your very own will before force
take a look at slavery, although outnumbering their white counterparts, they were manipulated against revolt by using religion stating that”the more you suffer now, the closer with god you will be”

      fucked up isn’t it???

but its still around and half(shit way more than half) of us cannot even comprehend the manipulation

Radio, tv news especially, all media can tell us how to dress, think, act, react for that matter and keed us in control, dumb, and certainly not REBELLIOUS!

      and we do it!!!!!!

    9. All this conspiracy bullshit is…well…bullshit. It just SOUNDS stupid like something those paranoid ass vietnam vets would make up. Yea, Im sure Pac was so intelligent and powerful enough to overthrow the government. GTFO

      1. *smdh* You don’t even get it…but if you actually knew his history and the history of the Panthers, then you JUST might understand. Feed your brain with some REAL shit, not what society wants it to be fed…

“Read between the lines, and question EVERYTHING.” — MalcolmLittle

      2. you sound like a fed or a snitch. dont be naive, not saying tupac could overthrow the govt, but…he could inspire others. think about homie, in the late 80s early 90s hip hop was political, it was causing kids to WANT to go to college, to gain knowledge of their surroundings, pick up a book, be religious/spiritual… AND now… it teaches us that BUTTER is worth more than GUNS

      3. @ KhordKutta

Hit the nail on the head my man. Problem is, these juveniles leavin comments are too damn young to even remember any of that. When most of em 1st started listenin to this shit, the jiggy/bling/baller era was already in full effect…these kids couldn’t even tell you what the hell they were doin when ‘Pac was assassinated, yet wanna act like they got it all figured out. They ain’t even aware that there WAS a time, once upon a time, where the “gangsta” mentality was the MINORITY in the Black community. Even during the Death Row reign, there was still somewhat of an even balance between the knuckleheads and those of us with that thirst for knowledge. Can’t tell these children nothin though, they think they know it all.

“Read between the lines, and question EVERYTHING.” — MalcolmLittle

      4. im down with malcom little and khordkutta

and the rest yall wouldnt get hurt to look into what they speakin of

      5. HERE YOU ARE TALKING SHIT ABOUT VETS

NOW WOULDNT YOU THINK THAT OUT OF ALL PPL

THESE NIGGAS WOULD KNOW DA MOST?

        UR DUMB…IGNO…

      6. Shoutouts to the ML and KHORD for posting some true shit. I would not doubt if this has some truth somewhere. 2pac became a slave to his own image sadly before he could really make some sort of impact. Even though Jay-Z and Diddy got that power per say, they don’t have that voice like Pac had. We killing ourselves based on this image we think which makes a nigga when in reality its just to keep our community from reaching its potential. Time for more of these rich niggas to step up and start to turn the tide since none of our “leaders” have been able to do it.

      7. It was a nice breath of fresh air to come up in here and see cats like MalcolmLittle, Khord, Doom, etc. holding things down.

Most of these kids don’t get it (yet) but it doesn’t mean that it’ll last forever which is the exact same reason why the people in charge were scared of ‘Pac and his influence in the first place.

To Wussupworld, you’ve totally lost sight of the big picture.
The idea isn’t that Pac was so intelligent and powerful that he was going to take over the gov’t, but he was starting to ignite a fire within the black community with the hopes of progressive change; politicians being held accountable, a louder voice for the black community and a better representation as a whole, maybe a couple pieces of progressive legislation getting passed here and there…you get it?

It’s sad that we’re so uneducated that we’re actually EAGER to play leading roles in their minstrel show which is why we end up with cats like Plies, Soulja Boy, Lil’ Boosie, etc…

“But when your livin’ in the gutter with that rotten grime/
It’s tough to blame ya for not seein’ past the dotted line/
So it’s on them to sign a dude with an objective mind/
But instead we get some idiot who’s next in line/” – Nukky G.

    10. Oh My God I Think We May Be On To Something ….. Im Not Even Joking Im So Serious

    11. Does this mean Tupac is really dead? I’m willing to bet this lame ass cracker of an author touches on that subject too… any takers?

      1. BURRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I WANNA ASS FUCK YOU PLAYBOI……..MY LITTLE JUNIOR STUNNA AIN’T HOME AND NEED SOME WEENER……………BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

    17. Im British, so i cant really have a deep perspective on your intelligence bodies but, i have to say im a skeptic by nature and i love good conspiracy theories.
On these Big and Pac murders, one thing intruiges me; They both had an eerily similar m.o. (traffic light drive-by). Both were at busy streets (numerous witnesses). Both are cold cases.
Given that both rappers were at the height of their careers, thus were high profile individuals, isnt it odd that federal detectives, private detectives, NOONE has any idea as to who killed them? I believe the U.S. Government, in addition to Suge Knight and the ones who actually pulled the trigger, knows more than meets the eye. The FBI involvement theory is the most plausible theory using common sense and an open mind.

    18. Do you want to experience interracial dating? I met my black guy on
      {—–W W W.Black -White -Date.C/ O M——}.
It is an interracial dating site for sexy singles of all races. You may have a try..

    19. yeah same thing happened to public enemy why do you think vh1 started flava of love and sent in a Russian spy to infiltrate flava flav … this book should come with aids fucking idiots

      1. maybe you need to do some research and you will see this book is not that far off like i stated earlier the fbi was just the tip of the iceberg in this story just do some research brotha and you will see and quit wishing aids on people thats not a good thing dude

      2. Everybody know them white folks killed PAC and BIG!! That Makaveli (KILLUMINATI) was the ending point for PAC. Eventhough it came out after his death, it played a major part in it. They was gone kill him anyway, so they did it b4 the CD dropped because they knew he was worth more dead than alive. Just like Michael Jackson was bout to expose their asses and look what happen to him.. Guess what happen after his death, sales sky rocketed.. Just my thoughts though..

        REALESTNIGGA-NDA-ROOM 239/404″

    20. This is a great theory but i dont think it was all about the fbi that was just the start because the fbi has been fuckin over us black people for decades all you have to do is a little bit of research to find out who actually set up pac and b.i.g. and along with the fbi the two names are boule and baphomet look it up pac was killed because he told on the illuminati and their gay acts (quincy jones knows) and biggie was killed because he was getting to large (ask diddy) the fbi theory is just the tip of the iceberg but great stuff

r.i.p. pac and biggie (you two are surely missed especially in this wack minstrel show rap game these days)

    21. I’M BUYIN THIS BOOK N FUCK THE FBI CUZ THEY AINT SHIT LIKE SNITCHES LIKE DIDDY N SUGE KNIGHT. PAC WAS A REVOLUTIONALIST N FREEDOM FIGHTER FOR THE BLACK COMMUNITY, DOES WHY THEY KILLED PAC. BIGGIE WAS IN THE ILLUMINATI TOO. U CAN DO YOUR RESEARCH ON DAT CUZ BIGGIE STARTED WEARIN 666 N STUFF N HE SET PAC UP, MANY PPL DONT KNOW BOUT DAT. CHECK DIS VIDEO N U WILL SEE BIGGIE WEARIN 666 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c18L2vNUcbQ N BIGGIE WANTED TO LAUNCH A CLOTHIN LINE CALLLED 666. FUCK BIGGIE N HIS MOVIE WAS MADE UP THE PPL CUZ THE FEDS MADE HIM SET PAC UP

      1. BROTHA I WATCHED THE VIDEO AND THE PREACHER REALLY DIDNT MAKE ANY SENSE HE REALLY DIDNT UNDERSTAND TUPAC IF HE REALLY RESEARCHED SOME MORE HE WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT PAC WENT AGAINST THE ILLUMINATI AFTER PAC FOUND OUT WHAT THEY WERE REALLY ABOUT AS FOR THE BIGGIE STUFF I WAS WITH HIM ON THAT ONE BECAUSE IT DOES SHOW BIGGIE WEARING A 6-6-6 JACKET AND BIGGIE DID REFERENCE HELL ALOT BUT THIS PREACHER NEEDS TO DO MORE RESEARCH PERSONALLY I THINK THE PREACHER WAS JUST TRYING TO MAKE A DOLLAR WITH THAT SAID IT WAS A LITTLE BIT INFORMATIVE

    22. Sounds like a nice little conspiracy theory.. the government is trying to take down the big black man…or maybe we just live in a racist fucking country and pissed off clan members have been taking out black leaders, why does it always have to be the gov’t? Need I point you to white leaders who have been assassinated? JFK, Lincoln and shit they were presidents…you really think they give that much of a fuck about 2pac? LOL you guys are a buncha of dickholes

      1. Uhhh you need to do the knowledge lil homie, and why were these presidents killed? Anytime a Black Man has a voice that could be rallied around, he can expect trouble. Unfortunatley you are the Hole.

      2. And He was on some shit where he was going to really start a movement for black people beyond the entertaniment he was going political like my dude said do ya research he damn near had a whole manuscript on some shit dude was serious and thats in one of those commercialized dvds so if thats known to a mass majority of the public don’t you think the government knew about it since they had informants planted all thru death row. THINGS THAT MAKE U GO HMmmmmm….!

      3. you are stupid if u think that the clan is even half as intelligent as to plan an assassination in means to prevent the man at the bottom(the urban/poor man/woman not just the black man!) from successfully progressing!

the clan are a bunch of idiots that are not even close to comprehending the power of a voice that influences great masses!!

but of course being a white kid, you are brought up to be deeply nationalistic and refuse to think there may be something wrong with the country you live in!!!

    23. Be sure to check out the new best selling book: “Michael Jackson: How the government plotted against the White Shadow of the music industry….or maybe he was just a junkie”

    24. Hopefully this guy can back his shit up with solid evidence unlike that idiot that put out that dvd called The Truth(“we all know Jay-Z owns the Knicks”,lol). I don`t put anything past the Feds though, they have long consistent track record.Sounds interesting,i`ll have to check it out.

      1. and Icke, his lizard men & all you other conspiracy theorists are all a little too loony for me.

igno coz i don’t jump on every ‘oh no big bad rich white ppl are after us’ story?
…better put on my tin foil hat before they start reading my mind too.

      2. c, i posted the bilderburg comment in hopes you would google it but i’ll argue with you only because i truly think u r ignorant and hopefully not just dumb.

like i posted b4, ppl have a preconceived notion about individuals that believe in questioning authority and its actions. i mean come on whats up the tin foil comment.??? you watch entirely too much tv and it shows you are influenced by it considering what you stated,

i doubt you understand what is intriguing about power and ppl will do to get it not just the “rich white man”

come on look at history. i’m talking hundreds of years of corruption by few to control the masses from THE CATHOLIC CHURCH in the 10th century to the european settlers who killed the native americans to ppl who actually profitted selling slaves!!!! From nazis killing off jews

DO YOU THINK THESE TYPE OF PEOPLE JUST DIED OFF IN MODERN DAY??

HEY NO MORE BAD PEOPLE IN THE POSITION OF CONTROL???

COME ON YOU CANNOT BE SO NAIVE? CAN YOU?

BUT OKAY THE WORLD IS A FAIRYTALE AND THOSE OF US WHO QUESTION THE MOTIVES OF PEOPLE WITH POWER ARE JUST COOCU!
        YEAH RIGHT READ A BOOK!

      3. Haha, get em Geeeesh!! He must not have seen my sig before…

“Read between the lines, and question EVERYTHING.” — MalcolmLittle

    25. Ehhh…this is a bit over the top.Tupac wasn’t some elusive figure where the FBI couldn’t just flatout investigate him, no matter what record label he was signed to. I loved Pac like the next man, but he wasn’t anywhere near Malcom or Martin status. His voice attracted millions, but prior to his death…he wasn’t really on some revolt against the government brigade, by any means. He was beefing with Bad Boy, basically.

High profile artists like Ice Cube and Public Enemy, may have been closely examined by the FBI and/or CIA at one point, but they continue to walk the earth to this day. Why?

      Let that marinate…

      1. By the way, let me add that this theory is moreso based on what could have been with Tupac and not what it was, if you follow me. Tupac didn’t quite capture all of the young hearts and minds of the black community the way it’s being portrayed either.

Again, he was taking on movie roles, dissing Bad Boy and “ridin’ on” popular MCs that weren’t seeing things his way.

The fact that he shot on a Las Vegas strip right after a Tyson fight and a suspect is yet to be held for questioning is whole ‘nother subject altogether.

      2. i’m also skeptic that the fbi created the label to keep masses in control

what i do believe is that they kept tabs on it and recorded files on the label as well as many other organizations that may be able to produce an unlikely interest and influence in a large amount of individuals.

what i am able to believe is that very powerful ppl can create these stories to make theconformists and even the skeptics VERY UNLIKELY TO BELIEVE that the gov. can even concoct such a “silly” story.

WHAT IM TRYING TO SAY IS THAT SOMETIMES PPL OF POWER CAN CREATE ALMOST CRAZY-LIKE UNBELIEVABLE STORIES IN ORDER FOR THE MASSES TO DISREGARD THE STORY COMPLETELY INSTEAD OF READING BETWEEN THE LINES BECAUSE THERE MAY BE SOME VALIDITY AND TRUTH BEHIND THE COVER STORY. I DOUBT THAT STORIES LIKE THIS APPEAR OUT OF THE BLUE…THINK ABOUT IT!

      3. My first instinct was to agree with you, then I sat here and really thought about it, and I don’t think it’s impossible that this guy is on to something. First off, you have to keep in mind that Pac was only 25 years old. He was a threatening figure because he was fearless, passionate, educated, strong-willed, and was a natural leader. I remember back in ’95 there were rap fans, and there were 2pac fans. Rap fans were pretty much what rap fans are now, which are consumers of the music who have no real loyalty to the artist or the music, but just enjoy it sort of passingly. 2pac fans were different. They were young, old, black, white, male, female, poor, rich, it didn’t matter. 2Pac transcended any kind of labels or prejudice. 2Pac had the type of effect on people, where he could have organized a million man march of all races, genders, and ages, and he was only 25. He just had the kind of natural leadership qualities that you very rarely see, and we have not seen since. The biggest rap icon now is probably Eminem, and his influence is nothing compared to Pac, because Em is a great MC but not necessarily a great person. Pac was revered as a human being first and a rapper second. It’s hard for me to explain what it was that Pac had, but whatever it was, it made people feel fearless and powerful. I remember kids who were otherwise nerds or outcasts in high school who would have fought the entire school in the name of Pac. I remember kids who otherwise had nothing in common who became united because they understood Pac and bonded through that. For an establishment who basically tries to destroy the idea of unity and rebellion against injustice, Pac was probably the single most threatening figure in America. Why wouldn’t they have Pac assassinated? Name ONE person who had the kind of across the board influence that Pac had in terms of inspiring strength. It has become trendy in Hip-Hop to say “The feds are after me”. Pac started that trend, only he didn’t say it in a tongue-n-cheek type way just to rhyme, he really meant “THE FEDS ARE AFTER ME!”. Pac was ready to die in the name of justice. Since his murder, something has changed in rap, something has changed in the hood. Pac was assassinated. It was an example to show people, especially young black people, “Don’t try to empower your people or go against the system, you will be murdered”. And it worked.

      4. Look at what Ice Cube does now, what kind of music is he putting out now? He is becoming mainstream, he makes movies such as Are we There yet? that isn’t a threat to the established order. You need to go back and listen to the interviews tupac gave, his life was more than the beef he had with Bad Boy, in fact, that beef was just a way to sell more records for him, he didn’t really hate them. Don’t believe everything you see in the media and think. Ice Cube, Chuck D and Public Enemy, what do they do right now, nothing that is threating to the establishment, again i reiterate. He was a threat till the very end.

    28. 2pac was killed by the, media, who owns the media(which controls what you hear and watch), and who owns everything else! Listen to his music he warns everyone of whats was to come and it;s still true! He tells you who killed him!

      1. AND THE MEDIA IS GREEDIER THAN MOST,YOU CAN SELL EM YOUR SOUL AND THEY’LL BE ON YOU TIL A NIGGA GHOST……….STRICKLY 4 MY NIGGAZ!

    29. ANYWAY U DUMB AFRO-AMERICANS, WHITE FOLKS STILL SHITTING ON YOU ON THE DAILY (ESPECIALLY IN THE MEDIA) AND YOU AINT DOING SHIT. SO TUPAC BEING KILLED BY THE FBI, THE CIA, THE FGR, THE ABC OR WHATEVER THE FUCK U WANT WILL NOT RESULT IN YALL MOFOZ FIGHT FOR YOUR OWN PLACE IN THAT FUCKED UP SOCIETY.

THEY HAVE KILLED EVRY BLACK LEADERS, THEY’RE STEALING OIL IN EVERY FUCKIN COUNTRY AROUND THE GLOBE, AND U KEEP WRITING SHIT BEHIND YOUR CPU???

    30. If this story is true why Chuck -D or Ice Cube or X-Clan or any member of the 5 percent nation or KRS1 are not dead ? THINK MY PEOPLE IT’S ENTERTAINMENT Tupac was a rapper/ entertainer period. These crackers got y’all fucked up you better keep your eye on there asses and stop sleeping on them.

      1. None of those that you mentioned were even one thousanth of a percent as influential as 2pac. Pac was NOT just a rapper/entertainer, he was an activist and a leader, and was only 25 years old. X Clan? give me a fuckin’ break. Chuck D? with respect to Chuck, his influence was limited to young (mostly black) men. 2pac influenced Men, Women, young people, old people, whites, blacks, wealthy, poor, etc. Everybody Pac met immediately felt drawn to him. Pac had a certain magnetic persona where even people who normally considered themselves leaders were ready to be a soldier for Pac, because they knew he was the golden child, if you will. He naturally possessed all the characteristics that most people just hope to have an inkling of. There has never been a person in the Hip-Hop generation or maybe any generation in America with the combination of talent, passion, fearlessness, ambition, charisma, strength, intelligence, and sense of justice like Pac. NOBODY. I used to hate on Pac back in the day. Being from NY, I was always a big fan of Nas, Mobb Deep, Biggie, etc. But even I had to accept that Pac was just a better Man than they were. They were like dumb little kids compared to him. That’s why they would cowar to him. It wasn’t that he was the scariest dude in the world, it was that they knew they couldn’t fuck with his level of intelligence and fearlessness. Pac would have stood on a podium and debated politics with George Bush. He would have stood toe to toe and fought with Mike Tyson. He would have lyrically battled any rapper. He ALWAYS told the truth under ANY circumstance, because he had COURAGE and INTEGRITY. Two things that are rarely seen anymore, especially with young black men. Real chatter, and you know it.
