Black Thought Prepping First Solo Album

For years, fans have asked The Roots rapper Black Thought if he plans to venture from the group to release a solo album.

Although Black Thought has mentioned pursuing multiple solo projects in the past – Dangerous Thoughts, Masterpiece Theater ,Talented Mr. Trotter – nothing has ever materialized.

Yesterday, April 16, on Twitter, the 41-year-old Philladelphia native revealed to one of his followers that he is currently prepping a solo offering.

When asked whether or not he plans to release a solo album, Black Thought responded: “Yes. Working on it. Next time someone asks this, you gotta answer for me!”

      1. I don’t really think a solo project is necessary to prove that, but I do feel like there are a lot of people that don’t see his talent because of his role in the Roots. Real heads know Mr. Trotter is an animal regardless, solo or not

    1. 4 real????…
Man I cant wait for it allready!!!!!..
      Super excited!!!..
Black Thought is a BEAST on the mic,……THE MOST UNDERRAIDED RAPPER EVERRR…
Tariq ia a Humble man and very kind,..Glad I had the chance to meet him once on tour in europe,.

    2. Black Thought is seriously underrated..

“In the glow of the moon, over the melancholy metro
My poetry is set like a U.F.O
      The maestro, the lyricist concerto
My physical play the role of a vessel
The level of my lyrics law manifesto
My thoughts wrestle and attack with the killer instincts
Of a gorilla stronger than Samson
Without vanilla my soliloquoy profess my ability to just
Stimulate you like the best sensimilla
      The halflife the Illadel-L-P-O-phila proceed
Hither is my death flower blow your tower to smithe-
-reens to fiends catch another rhyme gripper
Deeper than the meditations of a Hindu worshiper
      Unorthodox, hip-hop, minister
Than a Serengeti cheetah my thoughts swifter
You lose your balance when the sound hits ya
So check for the, Fifth Militia
A poet’s under pressure stressin that you get the picture
Even if it means you gotta hang over the banister
I pull a microphone on any pistol brandisher
And take advantage of ya because you amateur
Styles gunning down your sound man and manager
What?? This how we do it in the year for nine-six
With this deliberate attack on pointless rap shit
Breakin MC’s down to fractions, tell your squadron
It’s time to go to war, Respond/React”

      Bars for days..

      1. Thats my track right there!!!!

        The concerto, of the desperado
        R-double-O-T-S check the flow
If you know like I know then you know the motto
That’s all the fraud shit got to go/fake shit gots to go

      2. People don’t understand that there is a difference between rhyming and being an artist. This man is a master crafter of lyrics. And there are few like him definitely in my Top 5 lyricist.

    3. I can only imagine a track on there trading bars with Pharoahe Monch..features with Jay Elect, Tragedy, Blackstarr, Common, O.C., Elzhi..production from Beatminerz, Extra P, Q-Tip, Preemo, Kev Brown.. .

      Lemme stop dreaming already
