Big Sean Says He Reminded Kanye West Of Biggie

Big Sean acknowledges that he may not sound like The Notorious B.I.G., but in a recent interview the Detroit rapper said that his voice shocked Kanye West and reminded him of the first time he heard Biggie.

“I’ve been with Kanye when a lot of people rapped for him,” Big Sean said in an interview with The Rickey Smiley Morning Show. “I was always like, ‘Damn, man. You ain’t ever sign nobody else that rapped for you. Why’d you sign me?’ Obviously I’ve been getting better over time, just being around him and Jay [Z], just legends. He was like, ‘Man, the crazy thing about it was you were clever and witty and all that, but it was your voice. Your tone of voice was crazy.’ As different as it is, he was like, ‘I haven’t heard a tone of voice that shocked me like that since I heard Biggie.’ He was like, ‘You don’t sound like Biggie in any way, but when I heard you spit, it did something to me like when I first heard Biggie.'”

In the interview, Big Sean also says he rapped for Jay Z prior to rhyming for Kanye West. He says Jay went from not “rockin’ with” his Rap style in his early days to eventually requesting that he be added to “Clique.”

Big Sean has released two albums as part of Def Jam and Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music. His debut album, Finally Famous, was released in 2011 and Hall of Fame was released in August 2013.

    1. I like Big Sean he’s really cool and nice with the mic. Def better than Biggie. Young the new troll bruh remember my name

      1. no chance of that happening. The wack niggas survive, and the talented niggas die an early death. It’s a law of nature.

      2. Why does that shit happen. We’ve lost Pac, Big, Big L to gun violence, yet Wayne and his weak crew are still walking around

    2. YALL NIGGAS HATERS, HES WAYYY BETTER THAN BIGGIE YOU RETARDS. HIS LYRICAL CONTENT IS A-1 , GET SOME FUCKIN MONEY & STOP HATING

    3. Nigga you sound weak as fuck, you dont have album sales, you are just the same wack fuck as all those other wack fucks rapping now!

we have a terrible generation of wack rappers now:

      – drake
      – wayne
      – 50 cent
      – game
      – future
      – tyga
      – big sean
      – and very other mc from the south

    4. The only reason this Big Sean article is even up is because he mentioned Kanye West. We all know Big Sean died August 13, 2013….

    5. Lol OK. Kanye even ever met BIG?

Sean is a sometimes slighty above average rapper. I like the dude, has some ok stuff, but so highly overrated by some people

    6. I like Big Sean, but yeah, he isn’t like Biggie. Finally Famous Vol. 3 was great, Finally Famous the Album was alright, Detroit mixtape was a step up from that, and then everything after that was trash sans his verse from “All Me” and “First Chain” from HoF was pretty good. He started rapping like Meek Mill, dude should have renamed himself to Meek Sean. Hopefully he goes back to FF Big Sean.

    7. Todays rapper feel they can say anything because they have a bunch of children supporting them and believing in everything that comes out of their mouths.

      1. Sad but true. Plus if a person with some music sense and intelligence calls out their idols. It’s called “hating.”

    8. I dont know who is more of an idiot, kanye for say this shit in the first place or Big Sean for probably believing it and mentioning it on radio.

      1. Well kanye was just building up his new artist. Big sean is an idiot comparing himself to biggie, big sean aint even a big ruthless nigga.

    9. Music is a branch of a person emotion. If a person wants to rap about the trap, yoddle about a dog, or smash a drum about his brand new car, so be it. WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE? Music is the greatest form of communication because it is universal #XOHL

    10. Damn, did ya’ll read the entire article or just the title? Sean said verbatim “He was like, ‘You don’t sound like Biggie in any way, but when I heard you spit, it did something to me like when I first heard Biggie.'” All he was saying was that Kanye said he’s got a unique voice. And he does! He soujnds like a congested 10 year old. But in no way does Sean claim that Kanye was comparing him to Biggie, even in terms of his voice. It was just the comparison of both of them having a unique, distinct voice.

      1. you got that right “HOOKED on Phonics”. its always important to listen or hear while you read or talk. these are two basic weapon to communication. then you can have a better interpretation. the use of phrases and words in different context needs an effective communicator. Lord have mercy on these amateurs

    11. Please bring back real hip hop. I’m getting tired of this shit. Honestly this is getting frustrating. First kanye says big poppa and juicy aren’t good beats and now big Sean claims he reminded him of biggie.

I’m sorry but kanye has lost all his credibility especially after releasing the terrible yeezus album. And comparing himself to Walt Disney etc.

Kanye ain’t better then treach, sticky fingaz, pharoahe monch.

He ain’t better then AZ, masta ace or any member of the wu tang clan

He ain’t better then big l, guru, jeru, big pun etc

And I don’t have to mention biggie, Nas, jigga,

Or krs, rakim, LL, Kool g rap or Kane

So when he claims to be a rap god or call drake a rap god what drugs is he fucking smoking.

      Someone educate this dude.

    12. You wanna know who are the rap gods.

      Biggie
      Rakim
      Krs one
      Nas
      Jay z
      Ll cool j
      2pac
      Ice cube
      Scarface
      Kool g rap
      Big daddy Kane
      Masta ace
      Slick rick
      Chuck d
      Run dmc

Rappers who will one day be rap gods or are almost rap gods or should be considered rap gods

      AZ
      Big pun
      Big l
      Guru
      Eminem
      Jeru the damaja
      Andre 3000
      Gza
      Prodigy
      Treach
      Tragedy khadafi
      Q tip
      Etc

Drake, kanye big Sean you ain’t rap gods.

      1. Naw, you shut up, that list wasn’t all that bad. Someone got rage issues over someone’s rapper rankings, that’s some sad shit.

    13. If you wanna be technical.

Really only krs one and rakim are rap gods

And biggie and Pac are the second comings that died for the culture.

And jay z and Nas were there disciples.

That’s if you wanna get super religious and technical.

      1. Dude, nas and jay ain’t tupac and biggie’s disciples. They all started out around the same time. Nas spat his first verse in 1991 on that Main Source track, and Jay Z had been with JaZ O back in 1989

      2. I think he is talking status in hip hip.

Jay and Nas only became big after biggie died.

I think he’s talking about iconic figures in hip hop.

    14. why every rapper that come out link themselves to biggie and tupac? that fanbase aint giving u no love.. u better off claiming a white band

      1. Account log ins will only fix half of the problem; you’ll still have shitty articles, with or without the shitty comments section.

    15. Lil Wayne is the living embodiment of Tupac and Biggie…

No matter fact FUCK TAHT! Pac nor Biggie can touch Weezy

Lil Wayne rapes KenDICK LAME-ar and this bitch ass Big Sean

      05 Fuck Em!

      YMCMB!

    16. Big Sean and Biggie sound and rap nothing a like Kanye must of been drunk or high when he told him that. These to rappers could not be any further apart in styles and sounds.

    17. HA! Sure! And Big Sean reminds me of ………well nobody cause this dude is fucking annoying\

so that must be why he always shouts B-I-G!…These new rappers have no respect for the culture. Biting is not allowed your shark ass ni 99 as.
