Big Boi Declines Reports Of Starring In UK Version Of “Celebrity Big Brother”

The co-founder of Outkast is following in the footsteps of Coolio. Def Jam Records artist Big Boi is the second Hip Hop star to sign on for “Celebrity Big Brother,” the popular show in the United Kingdom.

After releasing Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors last year, his second LP in as many years, the Decatur, Georgia emcee/producer is headed to television. A statement was released to The Sun: “producers always like to mix things up with an American star and they hope Big Boi will do the business this year.”

NME reports that the Grammy Award-winning Big Boi received nearly $500,000 to appear on the popular reality TV program. Big Boi will appear alongside model Sophie Anderton, 5ive member Abz, and soccer manager Ron Atkinson.

UPDATE: Despite this week’s reports, Big Boi claims that he has been misrepresented to appear on the United Kingdom’s version of “Big Brother.”

The emcee told The Wall Street Journal, “‘Big Brother’ reached out to my team a while back. I was on my way back from Canada, they started saying I was set to be on there…and it wasn’t true.”

Big Boi did not wave off the potential opportunity, but says it is not confirmed. He added, “I never said yes or no, ever.”

    1. What? As a fan from the UK, I am absolutely baffled? Coolio didn’t have a career to lose, Big Boi does. Please may this be short and painful…

    2. Whyyyy? I don’t know what the show is like in other territories but over in the UK it is full of has beens and the attention starved (aka the annoying). Its not a good look to enter, as a fan of his I hope he doesn’t, its not good for the reputation.

    3. Glad he didn’t take it. Every rapper I’ve seen take a show usually does not do well in their music or whatever they do in life unless your name is “T.I”

      1. Indeed. T.I.’s is actually a decent watch. Wonder if Kanye will start turning up on Keeping Up With the Kardashians now…
