Anti-Drug Group Questions VCU Asher Roth, B.o.B. Concert

An Asher Roth and B.o.B. concert at Virginia Commonwealth University is stirring up controversy with a local anti-drug group.

“Having this artist come to the campus normalizes inappropriate, illegal and unhealthy behaviors,” said Denise D. Miller, president for the Regional Drug Free Alliance and chairwoman for the Parents Council of Commonwealth Parenting, specifically of Asher Roth.

“It also lowers the expectations for the students,” added Miller, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Roth and B.o.B. are scheduled to perform at a Back To School Jam concert on August 28 at the Siegel Center. The $100,000 asking price for the event was especially disappointing to Miller, who believes the actions condoned by Asher Roth are inappropriate.

Adele McClure, president of the Monroe Park Student Government Association, said that the programming commission, responsible for choosing the artists, did so by soliciting input from students via various social media networks and surveying. McClure thought of asking Asher Roth to not perform his hit single, “I Love College,” but thought that it would be detrimental to the show. “If he was singing any other song, people would be like, ‘Who is this guy?'”

Hannah Badaway, a senior at the university, fails to see an issue with the choice of performers. “Honestly, I think it’s fine. He’s an artist. He can sing about whatever he wants, and people should be smart enough not to do all of that and let it get to their grades. You should know not to do that every single day.”

Concluded Badaway, “On the weekends, it’s fine.”

    1. ha, but if it was 40 years earlier and the students asked The Doors to perform they wouldn’t have said shit. I’m sick of these double standards, like every single rapper is out to fuck up “the youth” of America. smh man

    2. These campaigners need to step off and stfu. Always tryna force their opinions everywhere and have people change into what they want us to be. Fuck outa here. People choose wtf to do, no1 listens to Roth then starts experimenting with drugs. People will do wth they want when they want n if it aint hurting you, step off.

    3. I think its good these faggots shouldn’t be performing at a college.

I don’t know to be honest you young dudes don’t know what the f you’re doing and the shit they put out nowadays its pure garbage. All it is is garbage honestly. That heavy drug stuff its a bunch of crap, but the artists nowadays they don’t approach it the right way. Trees ain’t like that but you don’t see artists and the culture differentiate that from the other stuff, cause the other stuff is pure shit.

See we knew that back in 1990’s we knew what to do. Today they mix in the poppin pills and all that bullshit make you think its the right thing to do. Its not. Its crap.

You young kids are fuckin wack straight up better wake the fuck up and start doing what you’re supposed to do.

      Fuck rap nowadays its garbage.
      Listen to the veterans.

      1. So what are your veterans doing now? Retirement? How are you gonna say rap today sucks when there’s artists like Fashawn, Blu, J.Cole, etc.

    4. @like every single rapper is out to fuck up “the youth” of America

You think Asher Roth is trying to help you?

      1. i’ll listen to who i want to, and you cant do anything about that. you listen to who you want to, and theres nothin i can do about that. let these kids choose who they wanna hear, not some fifty year old hag who won’t even be on campus

      2. Here’s a thought, if someone wants to buy an asher roth cd, and somehow likes his music, then that’s a good investment to them. How the fuck are you gonna tell people what they need to listen to? You paid for your music too so shut the fuck up.

      3. wtf???
no one can DEMAND nor COMMAND you listen to anyone but i know i’ll try to convince anyone that is degrading their intelligence with this shit!! its wack, how are you gunna stand up for you and your listening to this shiiit!!

      4. @Annonymous
Don’t start with this shit, tell me one artist today who’s making an impact on the masses with unbeleivable lyrics? These guys arent my favorite rappers, but people seem to wanna come on here and crucify them because they make popular music. Tell me how listening to Asher Roth makes you less intelligent. Music doesn’t dumb you down, you have control over how fuckin smart you are.

Of course, I’d be much happier if Outkast or some other vets would come out and do shows, but these guys are just performing and you guys get your panties in a bunch.

      Listen to the veterans.

      1. your a fag.
How the hell do veteran artists differ from new ones in terms of attending their concerts? Either way your gonna end up cheering them on, you go to a show cause you want to see the artists, you fucking moron

    6. these guys are whack, but who da fuck is this organization is whack as well.

i’m having trouble deciding which of the followers are more dumbfounded, asher’s fans or anti-drug organizers????
