Al Sharpton Receives Death Threats

Civil rights leader Al Sharpton has received numerous death threats in the past days, presumably as a result to Don Imus‘ recent firing.

“We have received several threats that we consider serious…I have been stabbed once, so we don’t take anything too lightly.” said Sharpton, according to NY Daily News.

“To give you an example, just this morning someone called up and said
he was going to hunt him down and shoot him like an animal,”
    said
Charlie King, a member of Sharpton‘s National Action Network.

Sharpton is no stranger to threats and violence, as he survived a stabbing in 1991 while leading a protest in Brooklyn.

The recent threats are being linked to his role in having shock jock Don Imus fired after he called the Rutgers women’s basketball team “nappy-headed ho’s.” The Rutgers team, too, has received its share of threats.

In related news, Sharpton has brought hip hop into the mix, in light of Imus’ disparaging words to African American women: “We must deal with the fact that “ho” and the b-word are words that are wrong from anybody’s lips.”
