Afroman is officially on the bill for the 2024 Presidential election, after previously announcing his desire to run late last year.

TMZ reports that the “Because I Got High” rapper filed the paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission on Tuesday (April 18) – just two days before a major holiday for him, 4/20. Documents obtained by the outlet show that his presidential committee is named “Joseph Afroman Foreman for President” and that he’ll be running as an Independent.

“Afroman’s ongoing persecution by the overtly corrupt Adams County Sheriff’s Department perfectly highlights that this corruption of leadership has trickled down to law enforcement all across the country,” the rapper’s campaign manager Jason Savage told TMZ.

“Criminal Justice Reform and Federal Marijuana Legalization remain two of the primary planks in his campaign platform. We are asking for your support as Afroman takes on this great and worthy cause as our Cannabis Commander in Chief.”

Afroman announced his desire to run back in December, taking to Instagram and citing rising inflation, a struggling economy, corrupt politicians, police brutality and many other issues plaguing American society as reasons for him running for office.

“My Fellow Americans, there comes a time in the course of human events when change must be affected,” he began. “That time is now. Americans are suffering, and the status quo is no longer acceptable.

“Inflation is out of control. The economy is in shambles. The housing market is staggering. Politicians are corrupt. Bad apples are allowed to remain in law enforcement, amongst our noble and brave officers.

“Medicinal plants are criminalized, while pharmaceutical companies enrich themselves on chemicals with unknown side effects. The media sows the seeds of hatred 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.”

He added: “We need a candidate that is truly elected by the people, and for the people. We need a man that can step up and lead with a firm hand. The people are starved for a Commander in Chief, that leads from a place of love and not hate.

“In these dark times, we need a leader that truly embodies the American dream.”

While former President Donald Trump and the current Commander In Chief Joe Biden have both expressed their plans to run in 2024, one person Afroman apparently won’t be up against is Kanye West.

Last weekend, reports surfaced that Ye has pulled out of the race altogether.

“As other Republican presidential hopefuls ramp up their White House bids, West’s political team of far-right influencers has found a new foe: each other,” The Daily Beast wrote. “After once working together to elect West — or at least get him more attention through media appearances on fringe outlets like InfoWars — West campaign staffers like Fuentes, Jan. 6 rally organizer Ali Alexander, and British provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos have turned on one another.”

This infighting has reportedly turned the DONDA rapper off from taking the campaign further, with documentary filmmakers and advisers alike put off from the idea altogether — and West is fine with that, too.

“Right now, I am living my life — like I’m concentrating on the school, The Donda Academy, and my new wife, and my kids, and that’s it,” West reportedly told documentary filmmaker Adam Camacho, who was hired to document the presidential campaign. “I just want to be left alone.”
