50 Cent‘s acclaimed debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is celebrating yet another Billboard chart milestone and 50 has shared a message for rappers hoping to achieve similar longevity.
The Queens icon’s 2003 LP has landed back on the Billboard 200 at No. 165, which means that Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ has reached 150 weeks on the elusive chart, marking 50’s longest-charting project of his career.
“Take your time and make a classic, they last a long time,” 50 wrote to Instagram on Tuesday (November 8) alongside an image of an article headline celebrating the chart achievement of Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
The post sees the G-Unit mogul imploring younger artists to take their time creating projects even though the streaming era seems to make music more disposable.
50 Cent’s titanic debut topped the Billboard 200 in February 2003 with 872,000 copies sold in the first week. It would spend six weeks on top of the chart throughout the rest of the year.
The decorated album is close to being certified as a diamond-selling project as it’s currently sitting at 9x-platinum in the United States. The project was the best-selling album in the country for 2003 and earned a Best Rap Album nomination at the 46th Grammy Awards in 2004.
A pair of tracks reached the Billboard Hot 100’s apex with “In Da Club” and “21 Questions” hitting the No. 1 spot.
50 reflected on his momentous debut in 2019 which served as the LP’s 16th anniversary. “Feb 6 2003 I released the largest debut hip hop album ever. 13.3 M Sold,” he wrote at the time. “Do you remember the time, Billie jean, thriller all #1 hits LOL.”
Nearly two decades later and 50 is still touring the globe performing the hits from his impressive catalog.
After wrapping up a European tour that saw him perform in front of more than 40,000 fans last month in Greece, the G-Unit honcho is back stateside and has announced a treat for his hometown NYC fans with a performance at Manhattan’s 42 D’OR nightclub on Wednesday (November 9). Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
And yet no one cares about this washed up rapper. Nas is the only other NY rapper to flop harder
You sure told him buddy. Good on you
you have to have this album love it or hate it it is nyc music history it is rap history it is history period. i was 16 when GRODT came out everybody loved it it was huge it is still a cash cow. nowadays people still buy the album of course but now it is 2021 there was no itunes or youtube back then in those days which has contributed to his success but do we realise it is because it is a part of history…….
Just too bad he fell off right after. The Massacre was one of the most disappointing sophomore records ever and it only got worse after that. Glad he moved on to TV and gave up on rap.
50 mixtapes was the shit tho. most of his albums were fire and I hate when ppl dont want to give him his props .
That I agree with. There was a time and I was a big fan. Guess Who’s Back was fire and the success of GRoDT can’t be denied. Not trying to just hate on him, I was very disappointed I didn’t get anymore 50 Cent music I could actually enjoy. I make best ofs of all my favorite rappers and I couldn’t find a single track worth pulling after The Massacre.

Massacre was great. Don’t know what you’re talking about. Anything compared to GRODT would be considered a disappointment because GRODT was flawless. There’s not one skip on that album. It’s the definition of a masterpiece in terms of music.
Lol Massacre was awful. A commercial success chasing album with no soul missing the mark over and over and over until it was just over. And sadly, it only got worse for 50 with his following albums.
GRODT… most overrated album of all time. Not a bad album, but overrated as fvck!
But could he have done it without Em and Dre?
“Im the boss of this boat you should call me skipper the way I flip the money over you should call me flipper”. Yeah GRODT was a lot of hype! I liked it and its overproduced but 50s lyrics werent that good on it. Em and Lloyd Banks killed their verses on the album. Looking back I liked his mixtape Guess Who’s Back better.
