50 Cent believes that depression is a luxury – one that people who come from where he comes from can’t afford to partake in.
During a recent interview with Big Boy’s Neighborhood, 50 explained why he doesn’t subscribe to depression or allow himself to be depressed.
“Certain things I don’t believe in, based on…,” 50 began before switching his thoughts. “I think the things you go through make you who you are. And in my journey, there’s certain things that I don’t even let into my system like that. Like, I think depression is a luxury. Because where I’m from, you can’t afford to be depressed.”
“You gotta pay the bills, right? So you gotta go to work,” he continued. “You gotta get up, gotta go do what you gotta do. You got people right now that’s at work that don’t feel like being there. But they got responsibilities so they feel uncomfortable while they’re working, while they’re doing what they gotta do.”
He concluded: “When these guys get in a slump and they just decide they’re not gonna do anything – I’m like, where they do that at?”
In the same interview, 50 revealed that he actually wishes his longtime friend and G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo would have blown up instead of him so he could have strictly handled their business deals.
“My solo album took off so big that I just brought them with me,” 50 said. “So it was clear that it was me creating opportunity for everybody else in the crew, but we was all together. I wish it would have been Yayo, because then I coulda did all of the business.”
“If he woulda did what 50 Cent did, then I would have been running the whole thing,” he continued. “It would still be two of us. He’d still be 50 cent as the artist and I’d be the largest asset to us.”
Fif also revealed that he’s linked back up with Dr. Dre to work on a new album after he previously revealed he was planning on dropping new music this year.
“As soon as I said that, I got a text from [Eminem] that he had already spoke to Dre, and that Dre is in there and he got some crazy stuff for me to go hear,” 50 Cent said.
“This is my process: I’ll go make something, what I can find, the best music that I can put my hands on. And when I feel real good about it, I bring it to put pressure on Dre to offer me something. ‘Cause he’ll have something… He’s always had something.”
50 said he plans on releasing the music in 2023, but an exact date has not yet been set.
don’t speak on depression if you’ve never been truly depressed. same as someone who don’t know how it feels to have to survive in the streets shouldn’t speak on that either. many carry a burden others wouldn’t understand. so it goes…
Yo, just because you are a top tier sucker motherf.ucker don’t think everybody else is down on that level. Buy a dildo, stick it up your butt, then suck on it for a hour. Should end all of your depression, you little rimjobbing skank!
You can’t speak on a next man life so shut the fuck up. Wealthy man preaching.
I feel him if he coming from a place where we all look down on the people faking it. Not accusing anyone of faking it, but its some fake depressed people out there just lazy and nasty…
Why this talentless trash speak for everyone?
your name is school shooter stfu
Eminem clearly suffers from depression cmon 50 don’t bite the hand that fed you, Yayo was never gonna as big as 50 cos he can’t fucking rap.
That’s deep and if you think about it, it’s true! Most people can’t afford to take time out and just have to keep going in life for various reasons (main being putting bread on the table). It’s very few who can take the time out and get treatment.
An illness is a luxury? What? Having cancer is a luxury? What tf is this dumbass talking a bout
10 million ppl die of cancer each year vs 800k who TAKE THEIR OWN LIVES bc of depression. Depression can also be treated MUCH easier than cancer. Would you rather like to hear you are in depression or that you have cancer? There are surely hundreds of millions of ppl walking around depressed but got no realistic choice but to put up with it. Wtf is this dumbass comparison even about st-pid mfer?
Cancer is an illness. Depression is an illness. It’s not a choice. Really not that hard to understand.
An illness is a luxury? What? Having cancer is a luxury? What tf is this dummy talking about
i lost my partner last year and i almost let go of everything and followed her, depression is real… when you don’t have kids and stuff, if you do then I’ll have to agree, not everybody can afford to process the pain they believe it will never go away
You good now buddy?
Everyone’s missing the point. What he’s saying is people who don’t have money can’t “afford” to dwell on things which causes people to be depressed. After a few hours the hunger hurts more than the pain and that memory sticks with you. We also have to recognize that the term “depression” has gone from a clinical term to something that people use a lot more loosely. 90%+ of the people who say they are depressed don’t mean clinically depressed but that they’re wrapped up in something in their life that they are allowing to keep them sad because the have the luxury of being able to be distracted from their goals even temporarily while others have to scratch and claw to eat.
this is ignorant projection. there are tons of people getting to it every day who are suffering and the world would never know until they self-harm. it’s a “luxury” to be able to cope with depression in the way he described, not to just have depression. sometimes mf’ers are just wrong b
Spoken like a true sociopath.
50 Cent making light of mental health…..shocker
Depression doesn’t know race or socioeconmic status…this is a toxic take because it’s in denial of people suffering. Just because you come from lower means doesn’t mean you can’t be depressed. Depression effects every class;
This is a slight at Banks ..he said the same thing back in like 2010 when banks lost his father and his mother wasn’t doing too good. Banks wanted to quit rapping and we know damn well Tony yayo wasn’t going to outshine banks so him wanting yayo to be a star instead of him sounds forced
Lol at all the depressed people in their feelings over what he said.
Slavery was a choice, depression is not. It’s simple you black monkeys… haha black roots is monkeys and gorillas zero brain xd
I see you stay commenting on a hip hop website, which is a primarily black art form. Guys like you are obsessed. Do something constructive with yourself and make your own race proud instead of wasting your time trying to tear down others. Stupid!

50 it easy to say what you say because if anybody was in your shoes with your wealth fame or just your rap career it easy well not so difficult to heal from depression . Not everybody are in your shoes to shake of depression like you say . When you don’t have nothing with depression it hard and a lot of people even take there lives or can’t shake it off

Clearly doesn’t understand what depression is. It often involves physical exhaustion, burnt out adrenals, an inability to function in any way both mentally and physically. Clinical depression can affect anyone at any socioeconomic level and calling it a luxury is way off base. It’s not a luxury to feel so horrible that you want to end your life.
