The first season of VH1’sLove & Hip Hop Hollywood featured a fairly younger cast than it’s LAHH New York and LAHH Atlanta. Besides ongoing relationships that faltered by the end of its opening run, it lacked anything solid like Yandy and Mendeecees or Rasheeda and Kirk. For the second season of Love & Hip Hop Los Angeles viewers will be introduced to Brandi Boyd and Max Lux. Getting his breakout moment as a songwriter through Lil Wayne’s Carter IV single “How To Love,” Lux has grown into an artist working with everyone from Lil Kim to Stevie Wonder. The Goddaughter of the late Whitney Houston, Boyd is also known for her work alongside close friend Ray J. Together, they form an amusing relationship that’s filled with enough drama to to last several seasons. Max Lux’s laid back persona is contrasted perfectly by Brandi’s high level of spunk. Sitting down with DX, both discuss their new found popularity on VH1’s highly celebrated series and how they maintain their individual careers while staying married.

Max Lux: I don’t know to tell you the truth.

Brandi Boyd: Well you know, Ray is family and Nikki Mudarris is our little sister.

Max Lux: Plus, I think people already heard how crazy she is.

Brandi Boyd: I’m going to let you get that off. Los Angeles is our city. So when you talk about Love & Hip Hop, that’s our lives everyday. I think it was a perfect fit. They reached out and we reached back. It is what it is and history is made.

DX: What did you guys know about the series before you guys signed on?

Max Lux: I love the show, I think we needed it. Young people in our culture needed that kind of lifestyle show.

Brandi Boyd: It’s nothing wrong with having a camera capture moments anyways. As a show with this type of no filter is good. Like a therapy session. I get to let some steam off during a scene or say some things that’s been on my mind. It’s good and healthy for me.

DX: Do any of you have a favorite from any of the past seasons?

Brandi Boyd: Not really, I think the show’s cool.

Max Lux: My favorite moment probably came from Atlanta series maybe. Probably the whole Stevie J thing. I was like yo, I feel you dog.

Brandi Boyd: Oh really? You feel him about what?

Max Lux: Trying to deal with everybody and everything.

Brandi Boyd: What about everybody and everything?

Max Lux: We can do the next question.

DX: Let’s talk about you guy’s independent careers. Let’s start with you Brandi.

Brandi Boyd: As you know I’m in a rap duo called Queens. You haven’t seen a group of females get together since Salt N Pepa. Much respect, we love them. We’re both from Inglewood and have lots to say. I’m always getting at people. As you’ll see on the show it goes down. There’s nothing wrong with getting things off in your music. Music is a big outlet for that and I’m just joining. I’ve been rapping for a long time and I’m happy that he’s going to take me seriously now so I can contribute to the platinum plaques on his wall. The difference is that it’ll be my face on the wall.

Max Lux: I’m just an up-and-coming record producer and songwriter trying to make a name for himself.

Brandi Boyd: Oh whatever. You don’t have platinum plaques and millions of copies sold and be up-and-coming. I like your humble swag though. Go ahead and do it.

Max Lux: I’m currently signed to Warner Chapel and BMI. I’m doing my thing on my label White Cup Confessions. We just putting out hit records.

Brandi Boyd: White Cup Confessions, I want to hear all about those confessions. I want to hear all about them. Not trying to hear or see any of them on the show.

DX: So you’re more known for your work on Lil Wayne’s Carter IV single “How To Love.” Talk about that track and what it did for your career.

Max Lux: That song was like a platform. It took me to another level. I was in the studio working on that record and it’s one of those records where you stay up till five in the morning and you feel like good job. Then you get back at six and get cursed out by your woman for working so late.

Brandi & Max Lux Says Life On Or Off Camera Offers No Filter Bar

Max Lux: For a long time.

Brandi Boyd: Shaking my head.

DX: We’ll be seeing the inner working of you guy’s relationship.

Brandi Boyd: Tune-in because it’s really real. There’s no filter bar. I’m very big on that. I can’t stand these fakes and these replicas. It’s all about being true to yourself. I got a record coming out called Gangsta Bitch and it’s not about killing everybody. No shade to gangstas but, I’m true to myself. If you can’t be true to yourself all the way across the board, even in your relationship and you don’t have to be married; we’re talking about long term relationship from marriage to business. Shit you can like somebody but keep it 100. Keeping it 100 will get you to the next step. When you get to the next step, it’s about where you’re going with the next step. You’re either going hard or going home because I go hard. Cause them mutha fucking Beckys is going home. Ain’t that right? [Looks over to Max]

DX: Well alright. The world will be watching every moment of your marriage. Does that make things harder or easier?

Max Lux: I feel like my wife has such a prominent voice to where the world heals us anyway.

Brandi Boyd: Heals us or hears us?

Max Lux: Sorry hears us but we do heal the world. I’m just use to everybody watching.

Brandi Boyd: See I’m going to let you get that off. You just throwing shade today. With the show, I don’t care if three people or three million people are watching, it feels just regular because at the end of the day, it’s our life. You either like it or you don’t. I think a lot of people should be able to relate. And people should feel like, “Damn, that was me. It’s embarrassing Oh shit was she in the trunk?” Yes, I was. It’s not a secret anymore so what. Don’t find out shit on social media, bring yo ass to the scene. I’ve grown from that. I’m a mother and proud wife but at least I have a man who stuck with me through the craziness, flaws and embarrassing moments. We’re learning and we’re still confronted with trials and tribulations everyday. For me, I want every young, old or whatever group of age you fit in is that love is a beautiful thing. Don’t be embarrassed for if you have to fight for it, go to a therapy session, talk to God or put a Becky in her place. Do what you got to do. Don’t be afraid. If you have emotions and a camera is there, who cares? Guess what, be an example. I want us to set the record for all couples across America or overseas. Do you. Sometimes a girl might get on her gangsta shit. All you men out there stop playing with us.

Brandi & Max Give Opinions On Miles & Milan Controversy

DX: You guys remind me a lot of how Rasheeda and Kirk from Love & Hip Hop Atlanta work so well together. How exactly do you blend marriage, the industry and being on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood?

Max Lux: You know, it’s one of those situations where you don’t force it in or think about it. The industry is a crazy place with crazy people and a relationship is a crazy place with crazy people. I probably won’t be home for a week or two but uh…

Brandi Boyd: You are so funny. Real cute. We don’t think about it, we just do what we have to do. We have a child who we’re going really really big for. He’s going to have everything he’s ever wanted and will never want for anything. My Godmother, let her rest in peace, showed me the way. My mother and grandmother struggled to make sure we didn’t feel a struggle. They raised me good. I didn’t’ have a father. They were my mom and dad. I went to private school my whole life and I’m from the hood. I had the best of both worlds. With our child, he’s going to have everything he wants, dreams and to work hard. If there’s one thing he takes from his father is that money don’t grow on trees. You have to get out here and get it.

DX: Well, Brandi. Since you’re the Godmother of Whitney Houston. Any thoughts on Bobbi Kristina’s controversial death?

Brandi Boyd: And my sister as well. Max was her baby as well. You know Krissy meant the world to us. I feel a lot of ways and there’s shit I ain’t going to say. God is real and they’re with him now. I’d do anything to have them back and rewind that clock back. But, it’s not in my control. I just have to deal with this earthly reality because spiritually, no one can separate us. We’re all connected.

DX:  A rumored controversy made the news rounds involving gay couple Miles and Milan with the male cast wanting to shoot seperate scenes. How do you feel about that?

Brandi Boyd: It doesn’t matter. You dark, you light, orange or purple. You’re you. You have to let people be them. Who are you to judge? God is the only one who can judge. I don’t see them as anything but two human beings. Really, I think Miles is a true man to come out because there are a lot of people who aren’t open to who they are. They deal with secrets because they’re worried about who this person or that person has to say. He dealt with it. And Amber is a beautiful girl. She loves God and is going to be OK. You have to let people be who they are going to be. I don’t see a title, I love gay people.

Max Lux: To each his own you know? I don’t know who is sleeping with who behind close doors and that’s none of my business.

Brandi Boyd: [Turns to Max]Exactly, you only suppose to know who you sleeping with behind close doors and that’s me.
