RuthKo honors his roots and his home country in his latest drill track, “Stay The Same.”

This is the first single of the year from the Cambodian rapper who had a busy 2022 releasing music and collaborating mainly with Phnom Penh-based DJ Chee as well as his KlapYaHandz labelmates in the 7-minute Khmer and English-language cypher from last year.

RuthKo vows that he stays grounded despite a nearly two-decade rap career that began when he was first discovered by founder Sok Visal when he was still studying in France. He raps in the chorus, “I don’t change / Cause of fame / Still fuck with the gang / Never change / Forget who I am.”

The accompanying Kim Chapiron-helmed visual shows RuthKo getting around the streets of Cambodia: eating street food, riding a motorbike, and hanging out and playing music on the rooftop.

The video was made in collaboration with the students of the Film School created by Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (PSE). According to the video credits, the organization has been operating in Cambodia for over 20 years “to help children escape destitution and get a decent job.”
