The collegiate world was rocked over the weekend when members within University of Oklahoma’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter were caught singing this racist chant:
Of course, many participating in the scandal were punished and the frats representation on U of O has ceased to exist. On MSNBC this morning, Joe Scarborough had this to say about the controversy:
“The kids that are buying hip-hop or gangster rap, it’s a white audience, and they hear this over and over again. So do they hear this at home? Well, chances are good, no, they heard a lot of this from guys like this who are now acting shocked.”
Yup, Scarborough blamed Hip Hop for a chant that’s been in existence before Hip Hop’s inception. Logic aside, Black Twitter was on hand to create this year’s first great hashtag. That’s right, #RapAlbumsThatCausedSlavery. Finding humor in something so audaciously ignorant, the hashtag highlights the ridiculousness of the argument in the best way possible. Allow DX to point out some of the best responses so far.
