Sometimes Hip Hop can move at a pace too frantic for even the most devoted fan to keep up with. Albums and mixtapes are released at breakneck speed, careers are made and broken with the swipe of a pen, and somewhere in between all the madness actual music (the quality of which vacillates between excellent and god awful) is being made. Twitter provides a nice summary of everything 140 characters at a time. And if you’re the type that would rather not be bothered with stepping into the Twitterverse to catch up on the latest in Hip Hop, we’ve filtered through the top rapper’s tweets and consolidated all the week’s events into one convenient feed.
This week, Rihanna and Eminem got one step closer to “The Monster Tour” and Gucci Mane hopes to enter the “No Flex Zone.”
Trinidad James Tweets About Def Jam Split (And Being Broke)
On December 13, 2013 Trinidad James announced a joint venture between his Gold Gang Records and Def Jam. The alleged $2 million pact reportedly ended a bidding war sparked by James’ hit single “All Gold Everything.” If James’ tweet from August 1 is to be believed, that partnership is over with Def Jam having dropped him.

Trinidad James faced backlash in some circles—including being called wack by Jay Electronica and a back and forth with Maino after James said Atlanta ran New York radio. James responded to his critics in an April 2013 interview with HipHopDX.
“Instead of people wasting their time trying to figure out or saying I shouldn’t be where I’m at, why don’t they just look at what I did?” James said. “I would look at me as motivation like, ‘Okay, I gotta do my videos harder. I don’t gotta be like him, but I gotta go harder in my videos.’”
Def Jam has yet to speak on the reports, and Trinidad James has since deleted the tweet.
Nicki Minaj Joins Beyonce’s “Flawless Remix”
While Queen B was singing Lauryn Hill’s “Ex Factor” in the rain during a performance at Rose Bowl Staidum in Pasadena, California, she also not so quietly dropped this bomb on the Internet. Beyonce recruited Nicki Minaj to join her on a remix of “Flawless,” where Bey did what no other member of the Knowles or Carter family has done.

“Of course sometimes shit goes down when it’s a billion dollars on a elevator,” Beyonce sang, in reference to leaked footage of her sister Solange Knowles attacking Jay Z at a Met Gala after party in May. You can listen to the entire track in HipHopDX’s singles section.
Childish Gambino Shrugs Off Peer Decapitation Threats
Actor, rapper, producer and comedian Donald Glover became a trending topic earlier in the week when he proclaimed himself better than Kendrick Lamar, Drake, ScHoolboy Q and “every rapper living” during a freestyle in Australia. The clip quickly made headlines appearing on Huffington Post, Billboard.com and BET.com. For his part, Glover, who raps under the moniker Childish Gambino, was either unimpressed or offering a totally tongue in cheek response to calling out some of Hip Hop’s more popular emcees.
Chuck D Supports Cormega’s “Mega Philosophy”
How good is Cormega’s new album, Mega Philosophy? Aside from netting a 4 rating from HipHopDX, Mega’s latest caught the attention of iconic emcee Chuck D. Chuck went the extra mile and apparently checked out Cormega’s DX interview, featuring insights about the record industry, fatherhood and working with Large Professor. Not much need for further commentary on this one. Check out both Cormega’s interview and the review for his latest retail album on HipHopDX because Chuck D said so.

Ja Rule Isn’t A Fan Of Stephen A Smith’s Suspension
On July 29, ESPN suspended on air commentator Stephen A. Smith for comments regarding NFL running back Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens. After discussing Rice’s domestic violence dispute stemming from allegations Rice beat his fiancée at the time, Smith’s comments were interpreted by some as suggesting women should avoid provoking men into assault. Smith’s suspension—which is longer than the NFL’s suspension of Rice—has sparked debate on both sides. Count Ja Rule as one of those not in favor of ESPN’s decision.
Mike WiLL Made-It Teases Rae Sremmurd & Gucci Mane Collab

Cee Lo Captures Real Life “Cell Therapy” Scenario
Goodie Mob’s “Cell Therapy” was one of the early Rap songs to address an alleged New World Order. Cee Lo, Khujo, Big Gipp and T-Mo not only used the phrase “New World Order” verbatim, but the pioneering Atlanta group also talked about government surveillance, RFID transponders and biometric technologies among other scenarios. It appears Goodie Mob was truly ahead of their time, as Cee Lo took a pic of an HSBC Bank advertisement for a biometric form of banking. The picture was eerily reminiscent of Big Gipp’s verse from “Cell Therapy” referencing conditioned consumers buying common goods like dish towels by swiping a barcode imprinted on their hands.
Remy Ma Hops On The “They Don’t Love You No More” Remix
Some 12 hours after being released from an six-year sentence in Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, Remy Ma wasted no time hopping back in the booth. As part of a series of pictures celebrating her return, Remy uploaded a flick from the studio with DJ Khaled. And in a bit of foreshadowing, one of the first tracks Remy appeared on was a remix to Khaled’s “They Don’t Love You No More.” You can listen to the entire track in HipHopDX’s singles section.
