Da Ranjahz “Inspiration” f. Cee-Lo 2003 (Produced by DJ Premier)
This one is a beast! “Travellin’ Man” remains one of Mos Def’s best songs, and probably his best sung hook to date. Honda always handles his biz too. On the other hand, Premier rocks the Jerry Butler sample with his vintage drums (albeit a bit late). Plus Cee-Lo delivers an incredible chorus. One time Roc-A-Fella artists Da Ranjahz kind of sucked though, and are an afterthought on their own song. All due respect to the Lost Boyz and their pseudo Freaky Tah tribute, but they aren’t in the running here.
Overall package has got to be Japan’s finest and the mighty Mos. What y’all think?
