Very few emcees can match Missy Elliott’s track record, no matter their gender. She began her music career as a member of the girl group Sista before later becoming a member of the Swing Mobb, alongside friend and longtime collaborator Timbaland. She would make several hot guest appearances before her debut album Supa Dupa Fly was released in 1997. Powered by the single “Sock It 2 Me,” “Supa Dupa Fly” would go on to become the highest charting debut by a female rap artist at the time. She released Da Real World in 1999, which contained the hit single “Hot Boyz.” The “Hot Boyz” remix spent 18 weeks at the top of the Hot Rap Singles chart. Missy Elliott would release six studio albums, total. The four-time Grammy Award winner is the best selling female emcee in the history of Neilson Music. Missy Elliott was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2021.
