The Source deemed their debut album (“Making Trouble” doesn’t count), “Grip It! On Another Level,” to be a 5 mic classic. Everyone who’s heard it, has deemed “Mind Playin’ Tricks On Me” a classic song. Anyone who knows their hip hop history, knows that the Geto Boys have been an integral part of hip hop.
Members have come and gone over the years. First it was Sire Juke Box, Prince Johnny C and DJ Ready Red. Then Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill replace Juke and Prince. By 1991, Ready Red left and Willie D followed him in 1993 only to be replaced by Big Mike. 3 years later, Willie D returns but the crew breaks up again in 1998 when Bushwick Bill leaves. That was the last time the crew was together.
So what does the future have in store for the Geto Boys? Scarface had this to say about the possibility of a reunion, “Now, there will be Geto Boy records for as long as you can say the word, but whether or not I’m a part of it, is totally and solely on if Bill come back and Will come back. Or if we do another Geto Boy record that I’m able to produce it, you know if we use different members see because I know what it was. It’s not a rap group man, it’s a way of life.”…”So the answer to that question would be the Geto Boys records ain’t out of the question, but it’s up in the air. You know I haven’t put it behind me totally but it is pretty far back there.”
