Hip Hop Is Taking A Stand

Russell Simmons is leading the Hip Hop Action Network in a protest against the upcoming budget cuts for New York City schools. NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg has authorized the reduced budget that will result in the loss of after-school programs, guidance counselors and other educational components. Bloomberg says that the cuts are to ease the financial woes facing the city since September 11th.

Simmons will lead the protest with some help from high profile artists such as Ja Rule to Fat Joe to Chuck D. The demonstration is going to take place on Monday June 4th in front of City Hall. Simmons is encouraging students not to attend school that day but to come out and join the protest instead.
