Who says G-Unit ain’t for the children? The G-Unity Foundation has given out two new grants to help underserved youth and schools in need.
Young Buck, an infamous member of the crew, gave the Nashville Alliance for Public Education a lot to be thankful for. Buck donated $25,000 that will be distributed in support of the Advance Via Individual Determination (AVID) program that has proved to be incredibly helpful to students throughout the nation.
This program has done a lot for at-risk communities from Nashville to Los Angeles. It’s helped kids who aren’t in the best financial positions or the best neighborhoods succeed and have a great shot at attending college. Buck felt compelled to donate to a program that was close to home and they are proud to get such a wonderful gift from the emcee.
Kay Simmons, Co-Executive Director of the Nashville Alliance for Public Education stated that they are “proud to accept this gift from The G-Unity Foundation to benefit a program which brings out the best in students and helps close the achievement gap for low income and disadvantaged youth.”
The giving didn’t stop there. Teach For America-Houston will receive a $100,000 dollar grant. Teach For America has accepted many displaced students after Hurricane Katrina.
The Executive Director from Teach For America-Houston said, “This gift affords us the opportunity to do what we are compelled to do, respond in crisis. Our displaced New Orleans corps members are thrilled to have the opportunity to teach students who have evacuated from New Orleans. We know that the partnership between KIPP (New Orleans West) and Teach For America will provide New Orleans students with an excellent education in Houston, which they deserve.”
These two grants show a lot of love from G-Unity and hopefully it will shine a bright message on the children to take education seriously. Since hip-hop started as an outlet for the youth in these same “at-risk” neighborhoods and situations, it’s nice to see hip-hop giving back!
