Kanye West is somewhat notorious for complaining at award shows. He made a big fuss about not winning a Best New Artist award, and even joked about it in his Grammy speech later on. The College Dropout despises not getting his props. Well, that won’t be a problem at the 2005 Billboard Music Awards.
Kanye will receive the prestigious Artist Achievement Award from Billboard December 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The award ceremony will air live on Fox from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
“Kanye West has not only had a huge impact on R&B/hip-hop, he has transformed modern music as a whole,” Tamara Conniff, co-executive editor of Billboard said in a statement.
Past award winners include Madonna, Cher, Rod Stewart, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson, Aerosmith and Destiny’s Child.
In related news, R. Kelly will perform in the night’s festivities. Other performers scheduled for the evening include latest American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith and Green Day.
