After several come back attempts and spin off albums, New Edition will reunite with original member Bobby Brown for a performance at the Essence Music Festival to take place July 1-3 in Houston. This will be Browns first performance (if it does indeed happen) with NE since he was voted out of the group two decades ago (kinda reminds me of Public Enemy).

Gnarls Barkley, the unlikely pairing of former Goodie Mob member Cee Lo and producer Danger Mouse are set to play Lollapalooza this summer in Chicago. The duo will play the main stage at Chicago’s Grant Park Saturday, August 5. St. Elsewhere will be released May 9. The groups lead singles, Crazy and Go Go Gadget Gospel can be heard at www.myspace.com/gnarlsbarkley.

Actor Hill Harper of CSI: New York fame is urging people (and particularly people of color) to pick up his upcoming book Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny. Harper speaks of overcoming bouts with several publishers who either refused the work out right or asked him to write about something else. “It’s a great idea but we don’t believe men of color read, and if they do we don’t know how to reach them,” he says he was told. “In one of my book pitch meetings with another publisher, I was told point-blank, ‘Hill, please don’t write a book for this population, we want to do a book with you, but please not this book, you are proposing a book for a population that doesn’t read.’ I AM ASKING YOU TO HELP ME PROVE THEM WRONG,” he writes. The book hits book shelves in April.
