More HHDX News Bits (Tupac, Wu-Tang & Coolio)

For the first time in its six years of existence, a rapper has made Forbes’ list of Top Earning Dead Celebrities. Tupac Shakur, 11 years since his death in September, 1996 reportedly earned an estimated $9 million dollars between June, 2006 and 2007. The revenue comes from the selling of the late rapper’s catalogue to EverGreen Copyrights for several million. With deals struck for biopics, a Broadway musical and Makavelli-Branded Clothing, the last year proved to be a seminal year for the iconic doo-rag-wearing rapper.

Shakur was ranked #8 among the 13 celebrities, which included James Brown, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon and the top-earning dead celebrity of all, Elvis Presley at approximately $49 million. The acclaimed list was reported and written by HipHopDX’s own editor Jake Paine.

Coolio will star in his own reality TV show on Oxygen, a cable network geared toward women.

According to Reuters, the show, titled Coolio & the Gang, is expected to air in the second-quarter of 2008. It will follow the rapper as he raises six teenagers by himself, maintains his rap career and launches a clothing line.

“Coolio is a single dad raising kids, and it’s got a lot of unconventional parenting aspects to it,” said Debby Beece, president of programming and marketing at Oxygen. “He wants his kids to do as he says, not as he does.”

So far, six half-hour episodes will be shot.

According to TMZ, former Wu-Tang manager and current Executive VP of
Urban Communications, Cathy Jones, was up in arms about not getting
into club Butter on Monday October 29th. The ever prowling TMZ cameras
caught up with Jones who broke into a tirade as she labeled the club
with multiple -isms (racism, sexism and chronologicalism).

With the cameras rolling, Jones threatened to call upon the Nation of
Islam to revoke the club’s liquor license and to “shut the club down.”
She also stated the club was rude in how they handled the situation and
even accused the club of having “young white bitches with fake IDs” in
    the club.
